One more week of hypo and then the chromis can go into the DT. All that work for a .... chromis.

I have been topping off the QT with full strength saltwater like Bang Guy suggested. I really like this method of raising the salinity from hypo. A few more days and the chromis should be going into the DT. It's a bit of a bummer that only a chromis made it through the QT.

I've got a water change mixing for the DT. I will do some of the w/c through the fuge. I think I'm going to put the korallia 4 from the QT into the fuge and the K1 from the fuge into the QT. Also, I will be giving the fuge more flow from the return pump. It will take some adjustment of the overflow as well. Plus I don't want to lose the SCWD movement so I have to be careful. I've noticed the mandarin is pretty thin still so I'd like more flow going through the fuge to bring pods to the DT. I shook out the chaeto in the DT the other day but don't want to have to do that all the time. Also, there's a lot of algae growth on the rocks and walls of the fuge which is why I want to switch powerheads.

I decided to leave the korallia 4 in the QT and the korallia 1 in the fuge. There's no need for that kind of flow in such a small area. I did take a few of the larger pieces of LR out of the fuge, increased the flow, changed the placement of the K1 and FINALLY changed the fuge light bulb. Pics to follow...

For some reason it won't let me add multiple photos to one post.

Here's the fuge after I had already stirred it up and removed the LR:

I also cleaned up the return chamber. It's hard to tell from this image but it was coated in crud and sand

Looks good.
Why did you clean it? I always thought that your fuge should be a little "nasty"

The short answer to your question: I made some changes to the fuge and I want to see how it affects the system so I wanted to start off with a blank slate.

The longer answer: I've been experiencing issues in my tank that I didn't have before. My fuge, before the tank crashed last year, only grew chaeto. I wasn't getting hair algae or cyano growth in it. It was nice because it was easy to maintain, didn't have a bunch of detritus in it and it was easy to view what was going on inside b/c there wasn't stuff growing on the glass. I've been getting algae growth on the rocks of my DT. Not hair algae, just like a green coloration to my rocks. Now, I'll admit that the bulbs in my fixture are old so I started only running 1/2 of the T5's during the day and I'm hoping that once I switch to LEDs next month it will change.

Before I switched to the BeanAnimal overflow I had one overflow draining into the skimmer chamber and one into the fuge and therefore I had a lot of flow running through it. The other day I added flow to the fuge from the return, took some of the larger pieces of rubble out and also re-positioned the Koralia 1 that's in there so that the flow is less restricted. I'm hoping this not only tumbles the chaeto better but also sends more pods to the DT.

Also, the bulb that I was using to light the fuge was very old, like over a year old. So I finally changed that hoping that it encourages chaeto growth. I've had the chaeto in the fuge for months and haven't really seen much growth out of it.

Also, yesterday the chromis finally made it to the DT. It immediately disappeared into the rocks and I haven't seen it since.

Two Reef Breeder Photon 32's w/ 90* optics should be here before the frag swaps next month! I haven't updated in a while; partly because there's not much to update, partly because I'm busy and mostly because it's so slow here, lol. My rocks still have a green coloration to them and I can only assume it's a result of old bulbs. I'm looking forward to having some coraline growth again once I get the Photons on the tank. My stocklist also hasn't changed: 3 YT, 1 green chromis, 1 mandarin. I decided that once I get the lights I'm going to trade-in my existing 72" MH fixture at a LFS and get some more chromis and either a reef safe wrasse or a flame angel that is "proven" to be okay w/ corals and clams.

I am really looking forward to the frag swap. I miss having a reef tank but I'm glad that I took my time and made the changes to the system that I made while it was sitting dry. I'm still very happy with the C2C/ BeanAnimal overflow and the addition of the MP10 on the back wall of the tank. Once I get the LED's and my reactor online I think I will have satiated my desire for equipment for a while.

They got delivered but I haven't played with them yet. I had them delivered to my moms condo- since I live in the city and I haven't been home much I didn't want them sitting on my porch.
I'm thinking of ordering a new calcium reactor, too. The one I have leaks and its flimsy construction makes it risky to tighten fittings. I've been looking at a GEO618 calcium reactor. I might order a phosban reactor as well.
I've got 18 frags coming to me at a February 22 swap, too.

I went to one of the LFS's about a week ago and they had a 150DD (36X36X27 I think). I really liked the size of it, small but big at the same time. I like the 6' length of the 125 but the 18"width is really obnoxious to me. I was going to get it but when I tried to figure out the sump I realized that it would take some work to get everything underneath. All of my equipment would work on the 150 cube and I really enjoy planning new systems but I simply don't have the time right now to design and transfer tanks and historically my motivation to do things like that during the warmer months declines big time.

I think that I'm going to continue growing out the 125 through summer and maybe transfer into a 150DD in late summer/ early autumn.

I still haven't made it to my moms to pick up those lights <facepalm>. Our schedules are so different that it's been difficult to meet up with her. She's on vacation for two weeks so I'm planning on getting them the day she gets back. I've been going back and forth on reactors and I hope to have made a decision by the end of this week. I also think it would be smart to upgrade my regulator and solonoid. I'm also considering ordering another MP10w ES.

Part of the reason I want to get all of this stuff is because I'm hellbent on the idea of upgrading to the 150DD later this year. I've been looking at more advanced setups and really want to do it right. I've broken this 125 down so many times and have made a lot of changes along the way. I want to start upgrading my equipment to good quality stuff now, so that when it comes time to upgrade the tank I already have the proper equipment for it. I'm thinkin: steel framed stand, magnetic skin, DIY custom sump, reef ready tank with 3 holes in overflow: two for herbie drains and one for return.

Just ordered a bunch of stuff for the tank: GEO 618 calcium reactor, new CO2 regulator, 16 lbs of media, MJ1200 feed pump, Phosban 550 w/ MJ 1200 feed pump, 450grams of media, magnetic frag rack (the magnets on the one I already have have rust on them), epoxy putty, and ReVive.

I'd say between that, the LED's and the frag swap I'll be busy in the next few weeks. I'm also going back and forth on my next fish. I really want a flame angel and I think if I keep it well fed it shouldn't be a problem. Once I get the 150DD I think I'm going to get rid of the 3 YT's and just go with the flame and some nice wrasses. I'd start getting wrasses now but my tank is not jumper-proofed and w/ the C2C and external overflow box I think it would be more trouble than it's worth.
