Beep Beep Beep Honk Honk Honk Roarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Is it enough that we just alert hobbyists that tangs grow large and be aware that they will quickly out grow their tank, or do we need to do the chicken little thing and tell them that the world will end if they don't remove the fish now.

We should just present the facts and experiences and let the hobbiest be responsible for their own successes and failures.

The Sailfin Tang that came with the tank in the house I bought is absoultly HUGE! So is the Yellow Tang but I think, I hope their full grown. It's 170g tank so lots of room for them to swim.

Warning them is all we can really do. Fact is, in all pet keeping, there are people that want what's best for their pet, and there are people who want what's best for themselves.
Some states now have animal cops, but the fish cops are a long way off.

Tang growth is a myth. I put a quarter-sized blue hippo into a 55 a year and a half ago. He reached around 4", and hasn't grown since. He doesn't swim erratically in the tank, and is my most 'amuzing' fish i have. Someone told me that although he isn't growing anymore, that his internal organs are, and it will eventually die. Sounds lke a crock to me.

if we really wanted what was best for our reef Inhabitance we would leave them in the ocean. And I also asked Henry who what is in the tang police car with the yellow. As of yet no response. He may be talking to his lawyer

Since your single stunted Hippo appears normal then of course all other Hippos will do exactly the same thing. I don't believe his internal organs are growing any faster then the rest of him... that's a crock, but healthy saltwater fish do not normally stop growing.
It's not the size of the Tang that is a problem for the average tank anyway, it's the amount of swimming space that most (not all) Tangs need to maintain their health and live a long life.

Typically, they will reach 90% of their max size during the first 10% of their lifespan. This is no hard and fast rule, just a general guide when choosing fish. They continue to grow until they die but it slows considerably as they age.
