Tang Question

Ok im debating on getting another tang since my blue hippo tang died. My tank is a 90gal that has only been up and running for about 2 1/2 months now. Everything is doing fine right now and was wondering which tang to get. I was debating on a naso tang or a powder brown tang or just wait on a tang for now. I know they both get big when they are fun grown but i can sell them if it gets to big. Any input would be great.

I would not get one with the intention of giving it away when it gets too big....why not get one suitable for the tank you have ...like a Yellow tang, I know there are others that stay smaller....just not sure at the moment which ones

Well i have a yellow tang in my other 90gal thats been there for almost 2 years. Just wanted something different in this tank.

Kole tang Ctenochaetus strigosus is nice IMO

These are tangs for 90G tanks
 
Scopas Tang, Kole Yellow Eye, Convict Tang, White Cheek Tang, Mimic Lemon Peel Tang, Bristletooth tomini, mimic half black tang, Powder Brown, spotted bristle tooth, and two spot bristletooth

Yeah i was thinking of one, the blue spotted, but just was looking at more colorful tangs. LOL dont know maybe getting my hopes to high. I might just settle on a angelfish.

I'd stay away from the acanthurus tangs (powders, mimics, etc). Either the Kole or Scopas would be my choices.

Why would you stay away from those tangs?

Acanthurus are some of the more aggressive tangs, so being in a smaller space (they're also very active so need lots of room) may lead to aggression toward other fish.

In addition, Acanthurus also emcompasses some of the largest tangs there are (Dussumieri, Xanthopterus, Mata, etc), and with the exception of the Convict tang, all Acanthurus are too large for a 90gal.

I wouldn't recomend a powder brown, I've tried 2 powder blue's with no luck ( they both died within 2 weeks) all my other fish were completely fine, I'm not to sure if browns are a little more hardy though?

Thanks for the info. My lfs has a good looking convict tang that is about 4inches long. Might go a pick it up soon.

Stick with the Ctenochaetus genus, they dont get as big and look really nice. The right scopas tang looks amazing under the right lighting.

I got a yellow tang and whitecheek tang also known as a gold rim tang.

I have had 2 Kole tangs and lost them both.

Not sure why I lost them. They lasted about 1 month each. Still a puzzle to me.

Oh ok. I have only lost 1 fish and that was a blue hippo tang. Died 3 weeks after I had it. I think something was wrong with it because I found it stuck to my fan.
