tang question

Okay I have a 92 gallon AGA bow front. DSB and approx 140 lbs of LR. The tank is cycling with the rock as we speak. I am probably 2 months away or so from adding fish. First thing I'm gonna do when cycle is over and there is sufficient algae is add a clean up crew. When I add my fish i was thinking of getting 2 mated perc clowns. Some blue green chromis' and maybe a wrasse or goby. I want a show piece in the aquarium and was thinking of a tang. From my research I understand they are very susciptible to parasites and disease more so then the other fish I want to keep. I would like your opinion on keeping tangs or if you guys can give me any other suggestions. I also plan on adding a few polyp type corals. I plan on going real slow and I have been real concientious about my water parameters testing every day using ro/di water onlyfor initial fill up and top offs as well as water changes. Thanks for any suggestions or help you can give me.

A 92 gallon tank is plenty big for a tang. Yes, they are more vunerable to parasites more so then most other fish. But, if you practice proper QT'ing of all your fish then you shouldn't have any problems. What kind of tang were you looking at gettnig? BTW, tangs need a well established tank of at least 6+ months. :D

I was looking at a yellow or purple. Yes i figured it needed a well established tank. Like I said I am taking things very slow in this hobby. I want it right the first time. Hopefully. Thanks for your input much appreciated.

Yellow tangs are quite easy and good looking. My Benny Parsons (thats his name, fellow nascar fans will understand) was one of the first fish I got for my 55 when I started out. I have since gave him away to friend when I decided to switch to an aggresive setup, but he is still happy and healthy living with fellow clowns and damsels.:D

I like blue hippo tangs and purple tangs but I learnd that the powder blues are kinda aggressive. you can have a nice tang with a 92 bow:)

I lost a couple of tangs during startup. They need to be the last fish in the tank and i recommend you have a light bioload and a very balanced , stable, and mature system. Would wait at least 6 months or so. Also live food such as macro algaes are a good idea

I'll concur with the rest. Yellow's and Purple's are good. You should add them last as they are really territorial. Make sure you Qt it before adding. Ich is a fierce foe.

I had Purple.. but I sold to one of this fourm member
because I couldnt add anything!! he killed anything that
comes in the tank... but he havent bother any small fish
he Killed my Asfur.. and Long Nose B-Fly... so I had to buy
asfur again... and put purple into QT tank for awhile..
than put him back.. but I finally sold him.. because..
he was really nasty to new fish that comes into my tank
Even with Larger angel and tangs

please do not add any big tangs like the Naso. They are huge, and will grow very fast. My is a cow, and it all it does it eat. I will have to trade him. Yellow tangs are fun, but my favorite is a sohl, but I thing that they grow really big also. One of the smaller tangs, which is really nice when healthy is a kole tang. Regal tangs, not to big, most beautiful in my opinion, are very suceptible to parasites. The yellow tang, is aggresive, but once he establishes the tank as his domain, he will be nice. At least mine did that, until I added another tang. Yeah, powder blue are aggresive. Oh, Atlantic Blue tangs are peaceful, and very, very nice. A pride of a tank, and considering that they are not easy to find, you will not run into many people that will have them. Sorry about the Sohl tang, but I have heared that some even killed triggers, so be careful.

Yellow, purple or koles are your best bet. If the tank is long you might swing a Pacific Blue Tang(regal), but thats just a teeny bit below minimum(100). Definately not a Powder Blue or any of the various Nasos.

A Salifin Tang may also be a good option...I ended up getting a small yellow tang for my 60g and I am happy with my choice...he is very fat now after three weeks...the salifin is pretty in my opinion and not as aggressive as the purple...I just added a pair of percs today and the yellow tang seemed to welcome the addition as if he had been lonely the past three weeks...
