Tangs and nori sheets

I have two tangs. I heard the nori sheets on a clip are good for them, which I have already purchased and the tangs love munching on it as they swim by. It's actually quite comical and fun to watch. Seems they like the purple seaweed better than the green so far as that always disappears first.
My question was... is it bad to just leave the seaweed clipped in there all the time? Will it increase the nitrates? I have only done it for one day and they have already mowed through four sheets (well the foxface helped too). But I want to know for in the long run... will constantly having nori sheets up for them cause nitrates to go up and is that considered over feeding them? If so, should I just do like one sheet a day or something?
Thank you all so much in advance!

I think that as long as they are eatting it and it isn't just sitting there falling to pieces you shouldn't have a problem.

I do 1/4 a sheet, every other day,, I think this is more than enough, It has not, Nor has been known to raise nitrates, Yours like the purple? mine hate the purple,, wont touch it, ONLY the green, different strokes I guess. Some people leave the Nori in there for constant grazing, mine doesnt last that long... I count the NORI sheet as a MEAL..I dont suppliement because everything eats it..I do rub some garlic on it though or a few VITACHEM drops on it.

Thank you.. this is great advice!
about the garlic... do you just grab a peeled clove of garlic and rub it around? That seems odd. I have heard that some people soak lionfish food in garlic too... is this for taste? Or immunity? I think I may have to look into buying some vitachem...

Get this product called KENT GARLIC EXTREEME,, it come in liquid form and with an eyedropper,, i like it and find it less messy, SOME people here say use fresh garlic, but I never understood completely how to utilze it that way. Garlic, will keep fishes immune system UP and is excellent for fighting parasites... VITACHEM is SO VALUABLE to me!

EVERYTHING EATS IT 1 tang, 1 neon goby, 1 green chromis, 1 diamon goby and 1 yellow watchman, 1 tomato clown. YOU CAN ALSO put the nori between your magfloats,, then drag the magfloat and NORI to the bottom of the tank,, then everthing will eat it,, fish crabs, snails,, EVERYTHING.

Hehehe! That's awesome!
I like the mag float idea...
Although, when the fish tear into the nori, they usually let enough debri loose that floats to the bottom for everyone else! And you are right... most everyone in my tank sucks in the floaty leftovers. It's so fun to watch!

The reason fresh garlic is better is because garlic looses its affectiveness once its extracted from the clove for a short time, so bottled garlic isn't going to do much good.

So then if you would be so kind... what method is the best to administer garlic? Both for frozen food that you melt and for nori sheets that you leave in the tank...

You cam use a garlic crusher or just take a peeled clove and press down on it to squeeze out the juice. You only need a tiny bit. You can then dilute with alittle tank water in a cup, drop the food in, stir it good and let it get absorbed into the food for afew mins, then use a turkey baster to squirt into the tank.

Or what you can do go to an Asian Market and they have crushed garlic that they sell on a small clear container.....The garlic is 100% natural, no additives, it cost like 2.99 and also they have Nori sheet (100sheets) for like 3.99, just check and buy the one without salt.......
The best things to prepare homemade food is going to any Asian Market and they have everything you need.....

this is great information!
I am going to look more into homemade preparation of fish food just for variety and supplementation of vitamins and minerals etc. Because as of right now, I just have prime reef, formula one, formula two, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp and one other thing... all frozen that I melt with tank water. I fear that this may be too limited in the long run. I am looking to supplement.
I think I will do some more research. In the meantime... anyone have any more advice? :D Thank you all SO much for all the help you have given me so far!
