Hello all,
I'm not that great at fish, and I have never really been that into fish, just corals and inverts, so that is why I have to ask these types of things. lol I will be getting a 90g soon.
Are there any tangs that you could recommend for four foot tanks? I can only think of two that would work well over time...
1. Kole Tang
2. Yellow Tang
What about a Chocolate/Mimic Tang?
Can someone recommend another large colorful reef safe fish that goes well with a chocolate tang?

id say those 3 tangs...maybe a flamefin tomini.... ive seen people with success with purples in 4 fts, if u want the price tag with them. id say maybe a foxface if hes fed well...or go my route with small, colorful fish, you can get more. also you can get bristletooth tangs...you can gamble on a pinkface or hardwicke wrasse also as these are pretty IMO.

I would not put 3 tangs in there.....I am thinking Seth means one of what he has listed

Corey....WTH is that? LOL
Seth....do you want a certain size fish to go with the tang? The 2spot hogfish is small but I really like it.....as I do the rainford goby, a fox face is really nice, and of course you know I love the dwarf angels....LOL

I'm really liking the yellow/brown mixed chocolate tangs for some reason. They're different - more so than just a plain yellow tang.
If I could, I would like to mix a chocolate tang with a purple tang if I can afford it. Any compatibility issues?

Can be done - just make sure the purple is a good bit smaller than the chocolate. I've mixed a purple with many other species and it'll usually work.

I'm surprised the tang police haven't shown up yet. Seth, what else are you planning to put in here?
My feeling is that you should just stick with one tang, but As long as they're small I think you cold get away with both. Be prepared for some water quality issues and the possibility of trading out when the purple grows out.
But then, don't take my word for it. I'm planning on adding a juvenile PBT to a 110g as my "last fish."

I had a Kole and a Hippo tang in my 90g for 6 years. The secret is to build the rock in the center so the tangs can swim all the way around the tank behind the rocks, besides just in front. Tangs need swim room and were always in motion, I never had them "pacing" back and forth on the front of the tank from frustration. Keep in mind tangs like it very warm...in the 80s to be happy.

What tang would you recommend for my tank ? 120g.
I want a hippo but dont know... I want to get a hippo t, school of bartletts anthias, wrasse, goby/blenny, and I have a Clownfish pair, and 4 chromis... Maybe not a hippo, but I want a show fish, like one that stands out and is kinda big....I am thinking to get like 4 wrasse instead of a bigger fish....post thoughts please thanks.

Wrasse are horrible jumpers...a closed top with mesh and egg crate...even then they jump when you feed the fish.
120g is a nice size tank, a Hippo, or powder blue are great looking showy tangs...be sure to quarantine, these fish get stressed easy and the ich parasite just loves them.

Heh......hey, sounds like you're stealing my stock list.
My current plans for my 110 include a trio of Bartlett's or Evansi Anthias, a pair of blue reef chromis, a leopard wrasse, a flame angel and a PBT. Plus my two Mandarins and a Sleeper Green Banded Goby or some other SSG.
I'm torn between the Blue Star Leopard Wrasse or a McCosker's Flasher. I could probably keep both (Totally different Genus) but I'm not sure if I should.
Snake, what else are you putting in here again?

Well, I'm working on the tangs now. lol!
I think I am going for a purple tang and a chocolate/mimic tang right now.
To start off, I think I will have to use some of my current stock in my 20g:
2 tomato clowns
3 chromis
1 bicolor blennie.
I would really prefer to get rid of the tomato clowns and the bicolor blennie, but my wife has grown fond of them. I wish I could just set up a separate tank for her and let her do her thing. In fact, that gives me an idea...
The chromis are going to be going back to the fish store as well. I think I might switch them out for some awesome looking black and yellow chromis at my new fish store as starter fish.
So, for the new tank:
6 black and yellow chromis OR 3 Barletts Anthias
McCoskers Flasher wrasse
Bi-color blennie
Red scooter dragonette
Chocolate/mimic Tang
Purple tang OR Kole tang - depends on budget.
Most people have a problem not filtering their water enough - I have the problem of over-filtering my water. LOL So, I'm sure my stock list is not Heavy.

I like blue neon gobies too.
If I leave a lot of open space in my rock work, I might try to get a small blue hippo to go with my mimic tang.
