i used mine when my tank was first set up and i had regular lighting. Most people dont use them b/c their lighting would melt the plastic or the plastic doesnt fit anymore. I can't use it any more b/c all my lights wouldn't fit on the top of the tank since i use 2 of the coralife 65 watt pc lights with the housing.
