Wish I could remember what it's called - I bought a small bunch of it online and it has multiplied beautifully. I just stick a few pieces in the crevices of rocks and it takes off. I'll get a close up picture of it and see if someone can identify it for us.

ya i PROMISE ill post my pics tomorrow, the 18th sorry if i said i would before its just been so busy around here latley

and can u use like sand from the beach, cause this past summer i went to panama city beach and got a bunch of sand and so i put it in there mixed with some live sand from my other tank. is this ok?

Some say this is ok but I have heard stories and have never done it.It can bring unwanted pest into your tank or parasites or Vibro infections.But It all depends on where you got the sand I guess?If your tank is still cycling it should be ok since the cylce will kill any unwanted pest that may have hitched in the sand.

I wouldn't risk it - seahorses are very vulnerable and sensitive. Everything should be as perfect (and safe) as possible in their tank. I, too, have easy access to a beach but still wouldn't consider using the sand for even my fish tanks, let alone my horse tank. It's a one-time purchase - probably well worth the money to avoid the risk.

idk if it makes a diference but the sand has been in a bag dry for about a yar before i put it into the tank?

and the sand was picked up a good 50 feet away from the water so if this makes a difference let me know

Being dry for so long would kill any parasites or disease,so I think it would be safe. I still personally would not use it but it should be ok.

ya here is my tank so far, its about time i got it up here, ya im thinkin of adding some like mangroves , macros, maybe a sea fan skeleton

Sorry, forgot to explain that. That's their feeding dish -- it's a champagne flute filled with coral-colored sand. I wanted it tall so that when I'm home for lunch I can squirt their mysis in there without even getting my hand wet. When I'm in for the day and ready to putz with the tanks I then squirt some mysis in the macro algae so they can forage for it, but they know to check the dish first.

I think that is such a great idea!!!! I am looking for ideas for my new seahorse tank and that not only is useful but looks really neat too!

looks good so far. I would add more rock though. The base rock they are selling here looks pretty good for the price. well never mind, I couldnt find it.
You will also need some more hitches. Is that a heater in there?? you will need to get a heater cover. They can burn themselves while trying to hitch to it. I dont run any heaters, just fans to keep the temps down.

ya that thing in the bac is a artificial sea urchin i made for the seahorses future tankmates, banggai cardinals lol. ya im plannin on addin more hitches but idk how long into the cycle i can start adding the macros, ya and i do need to find a heater gaurd
and is it like important to have enough rock cuase i was just plannin on have like a macro tank like a seagrass bed of caulerpas and stuff lol

I always added my macro's when amm and trites were at 0 , and trates started to climb.
Heres a pic of my 55g kelloggi tank [they'll be in there soon ]. I can never get a good shot of my hex tank [erectus] ,too much glare from all the glass panels, and my reidi tank is being re-aquascaped right now with new corals , more macros

Hi, yep I have a couple pencil urchins in that tank....very good with eating algae , but after they eat the nuisence algae they'll eat macros
but not codium for some reason....I have a friend in from arizona who brought his professional camera to take pics of the hex tonight [ a codium forest], hopefully a good tank shot [ finally ...hehe] but after a few cocktails who knows...lol

Very cool and different.If I did a seahorse tank again I think I would do a theme like this.

I got a pencil to help with algae..one for each tank..when they started eatng the ccoreals I put them in the refuge..at least until I can take them somewhere

One thing I noticed in your tank,(and I may be wrong) is the sand is not getting enough oxygen from flow.The black under the sand is bacteria and when released has hydrogen sulfide.So I would stir your tank a little tonight.Again I may be wrong but I remember in my first tank that was a 10 gallon I thought it was the beneficial bacteria growing...lol...Until I did some more research.I had the add more flow to the tank and take some sand out.
