Tank Rebuild -

OK, a while back I told you guys I was adding a 400 to my system. The story is that some rich jerk was putting in a wine cellar and couldn't wait a few hours for the LFS guys to come take the tank out. So... He cut the end off. ANyway, I got the tank for $50. the good news is that I have repaired it, replaced the end, and it has been sitting in my bak yard full of water for a month now. Soon it will be plumbed into my system. I think it will end up adding about 360 gallons.
Here are the pics.

looking good, as long as its been holding water thats an excellent buy and good work getting that end piece back on

Thanks - Actually, I decided not to re-use the end piece. It would have been difficult to cut exactly. I bought a new piece and inserted it into the end. I also added braces to the outside just for S & Gs. I tend to over-engineer things. But it has been sitting out there full of water for almost a month. Now I just have to figure out how to afford the LR to fill it up.

CL it up i get mind for no more than 2.50 a pound.. and thats all different kinds... so you looking at 1grand.. but better than 3 grand

Since you have been waiting a month already I would just make your own baserock, cure it in some SW w a power head for a couple weeks then set the beast up put in some sand and start er up....You can then add some LR in and let mother nature get to work....this of course is assuming you can be patient to let it all settle down and mature for another month or so

BTW Pelican Lake the river and the local small mouth competitions are NOT good sources of LR....J/K my family is from St Cloud

Any updates... i wanna see how this turns out....
Well I just ordered the sand, which should be here on weds. Still working on the LR. I had some homemade in the basement, but I never finished curing it. That will probably take a month or so. Maybe I will find some locally...
Updates soon.

Dried up Lake Bonivelle (sp?). Its commonly called utah rock. Works great, sense it was once under lake bonivelle. If you are willing to take a vacation and come out their and get it you can get a truck full which would easy fill the tank, plus some extra for various other projects. This is one kind of utah rock, different spots have different looking peices.

I have a better idea. You load up your truck with it and come stay in fabulous Minneapolis.

What are you going to light that beast with? Why the clear rectangle on the far end? That critter is going to outgrow that tank in now time by the way!!!!!!!!! It's too bad because in a few years you are gonna want to lock him up for a while!!!!!!!!!!!

in a few years?

Its going to be plumbed into my existing system, but its going to be fish only so the lighting doesn't have to be that great. I was thinking a few large fish. Maybe some mellow triggers, tangs and such.
The rectangle was from whomever had it before for some reason. I replaced the right end, so there isn't one.
