Just curious.... who intentionally keeps there tank over 80 all year long?
What is your reason for doing so?
What is in the tank... reef... FOWLR etc.

Okay I confess. My tank stays at 80-81 in the summer not by choice tho. No chiller just a fan. Tank looks just as healthy when it's 78-79 in the winter time.

During Winter I used to keep my temp between 78-80, now that Summer is here, my tank has been between 82-84(not by choice either) and honestly I've seen a huge difference in growth. My duncans and frogspawn started growing new heads since the Summer started and my monti caps have grown a little faster than before. My sebae anemone expands a LOT more than before. Maybe I'll keep it between the 80-82 during Winter this time

My 180 hovers around 80 to 82 in the summer as well. Again not by choice...no chiller yet. The hot days with a fan full blast, it stays around 82 to 83. On an average though I strive for 78-80.
Just a few weeks ago I was away from my house for a hot hot wknd, couldnt keep the fans going because I wouldnt be around for water top off's. I got home and it was at 90! And probably was there at that temp all wknd.
Lost half my corals and 3 fish., tank was all cloudy fish stresse
Time for a chiller.

old tank used to stay over 80 and peak at 84deg. never lost one coral or fish and or any negative results from it. anything 84 deg or under I'm not worried about or considering a chiller.

So, there are those of you that advise others keep their tank a minimum of 80?
I'm not talking those that "let" their tank get to 80. Or those that in the summer can't get it below 80, but those that recommend and want their tanks to be at no less than 80 at all times.

I've heard a few that run their tanks 82 on purpose. I like 78-80 personally and see nothing wrong 76-82 IMO. The reason? Personal preferance I think and most of all its a stable temp without the need of chillers or just where they're tanks run in their house.

I wouldn't advise over 80 but if some already had a tank over 80 and didn't want to use a chiller then I would say it fine just as long it doesn't jump from 78 to 84 and back doown to 78 all in one day. Keeping temp stable is more important. JMO.

We keep our tanks 77-78. 80 is fine and 82 won't kill them, but I'm curious why some people think it BETTER above 80.

I was in a Nano Tank Build contest several years ago. I kept it at 86F for faster growth because the contest was only for 8 months.

Do you think that was healthier?... accelerated growth?
Now, I know it can be hard to read tone.... this is just me trying to start a friendly discussion to see why different people do and recommend things a certain way.

No help from me. I keep my reef tank 74-76. Everyone seems happy and thriving and I don't have parasite issues. Not sure if it's just lucky, but it works for me.

I came in first place in the contest so it seemed to achieve the goal.

It was a Nano contest and I chose a 10 gallon.
Here's the tank in March - glueing in a built-in sump/skimmer.

our tank has been spiking bad in the summer heat here and weve always kept it at ~ 79. with the temp spike ive done some research and ive read a lot of corals like temps 80 - 82 but will bleach at and above 85. we had one spike that hit 85 and true enough our stylopora all died along the base and most polyps were not out on the other corals. even the brains seemed retracted.
when talking about global warming and reef death ive seen a lot of papers talk about the 85 degree threshold for corals.
