Tank Tops?

Imo I would not worry about a glass top and gas exchange im sure your glass top is not airtight and in your size tank I would imagine you have a good size sump which is not covered

im guessing in usa terms a sump is a filter in uk terms if so yeah i got a filter but not an insane one..
its a fluval filter i think its a 306
i'm planning on getting an insain filter once moved and settled in and keep using the fluval too can never have to much filtration.
im gonna learn for a couple of months to possibly make my own a nice big one im quite handy at making things.
but i do like to view other people's top view of tank to give me good ideas ive seen a few nice tops in pics forum

Wouldn't there still be gas exchange in the tank even with a sump or refugium? I think it all depends on surface area, right? I would be worried about the lights heating things up through the glass. At least, that's what I've read. That, and the glass reflects light and doesn't allow the same level of penetration...

Wouldn't there still be gas exchange in the tank even with a sump or refugium? I think it all depends on surface area, right? I would be worried about the lights heating things up through the glass. At least, that's what I've read. That, and the glass reflects light and doesn't allow the same level of penetration...

There still is gas exchange, but also there are lights on the sumps too. But heat is a prob, mine tends to run hot.... BUT with stronger lights there is always going to be a heat problem.
