hey. my 40 breeder is without a sump. my mom is afraid of any more water in my room.
for equiptment i am jsut running carbon, phosban, and an aqua C remora pro with upgraded pump and the preskimming box. i had a coralife super skimmer 65 on there along with it, but water would evaporate too quickly and the entire thing would overflow so i took it off. i am hopeing to get a deltec MCE 600 at some point.
anyways, please excuse the mess, i am in the middle of upgrading to a 250 watt halide and 2X39 watt t5s. hence the wires in front of the tank and the lights just sitting there on some 2X4s until i get my caopy built.
but none the less, itll show you a tank without a sump
in there i have 2 ocellaris clowns, a mandarin dragonette, and two neon gobies. for corals i have many many types of lps, softies, mushrooms, zoas, and sps, as well as a BTA and a crocea clam. i do a 12.5 % water change a week at least

nice tank fishi. I once ran without a sump and couldn't keep nitrates down and switched to the sump. Do you run phosban constantly or just on occasion??

i run it constantly. i probably dont replace it as much as i should. but all my sps have nice color (except for the two brown acro colonies you will see in the center, but i bought them that way) so i dont really worry.
i supose having95-100 pounds of lr in a 40 gallon tank helps with that though. oh yeah, and the largest piece in there is about 3 pounds. most of them around 1-2, so there is even more surface area than most tanks with many more pounds

I have a 46 that I run with just a skimmer. I will post a pic when I get a chance. It has been up almost a year and a half. The nitrates run about 20 but they stay there so I don't worry too much.

That tank looks great!! I hope I can run a sumpless system and attain even half of your results. What is phosban? Im planning on getting the Aqua C already good to see you use it to those results, I have a 28 gallon with 28 pounds of LR, ill probably add some more. What powerheads do you use.

thanks!

the aqua C is prtty nice. but to be honest, i am not completly impressed or satisfied with it...
phosban is a type of phosphat remover. i dont have a reactor, but it also works well in a media bag in any filter or someplace.
for powerheads, i have one maxi-mod, one plain maxi jet 1200, and 2 maxi-jet 1200s with the hydor rotating reflectors for some switching current. and they are all run on a red sea wavemaster pro. though soon i am switching out one of the maxis for another maxi-mod.

i was jsut trying to get the ball rolling

Do you run the Phosphate through just a HOB filter? Is the Maxi Mod the one I see on the left? Or is that the one with the rotating reflector? When you say they all run on a red sea wavemaster pro, does that mean they are on a seperate pump?, a little confused about this.

This is beautifull also! How much LR you have in there? Are you satisfied with the Magnum? I was looking at those, you obviously have pretty results with it! Whats the powerhead rated at, I currently have 2 MaxiJet 600, rated at 110.

I ran a 100 without a sump for a long time. Had trouble with nitrates and nuisance algae until I bought a CPR aquafuge HO and grew some caulerpa. Helped with the algae quickly, but still couldn't keep nitrates down under 15 so I just recently put in a sump. Now I have a new set of headaches. I think the aquafuge would do well on a smaller tank.
By the way, you guys have great colors in your tanks. My family says mine are all brown. I guess I have to spend some money to get the good stuff.

nope. i just have a HOB filter that i bought when i first bought the setup and run phosban in a media reactor (ill get a phosban reactor some day i am sure) along with two bags of carbon. no actual filters
yes, the one you see on the left is a maxi mod. however, it isnt a very good one but it still does what it is suposed to.
the red sea wavvemaster pro is a wavemaker. i plug all 4 of my pumps into it and it alternates the current between them. sometimes only one or two is on, sometimes all 4 of them are on. most of the time about 3 of the 4 are on and it alternates which one(s) is not. it jsut gives more random flow

rasguedo....i love the magnum...the only other pump in there is the little one that comes with the current nano skimmer. I kept the pump and threw the rest of it away

No sump on this one, not enough room. i do run a fuge, uv light, skimmer,ROWAphos and a HOB mechanical filter w/baskets for carbon thats on my fuge.
