Tattoos on your doctor or lawyer?

This thread was inspired by a radio discussion about professionals with tattoos. While tattoos certainly have become more mainstream and socially acceptable then they used to be, do you want your doctor/lawyer to have a skull and crossbones on the side of his neck? Does it make a difference to you if your garbage man has a tattoo? Is there a difference for a doctor / lawyer /scientist / or even a teacher of your kids? Does the type of tattoo matter?
What are your thoughts?

I have tattoos and I have a professional career so it wouldn't be right for me to care if doctor's, lawyers, or anyone in any position has them. Though I'm sure there is always a line to draw as far as that person's professionalism, such that if they were covered head to toe in tattoos they probably wouldn't get as much respect from a judge in a courtroom as someone who has none, so then it might matter.

i dont think a tattoo can effect the way someone does there job. and if there in a profesional position they obviously did the time to get there with or without a tattoo

Voted the last one. If I can't see them, what does it matter? However if they have tats on their face/neck/hands, that start's to raise eyebrows. If it's causal Friday or whatever, and he has a polo on, and a tat's peeking out from under from the sleeve, don't really care.
However, that's just for me, if I had a kid, his/her pediatrician better hide them good. Don't really care if my garageman has tats, it's not like I can choose them, unlike my doctors...

This is a good point. I think that there is an appropriate time and place for tattoos. I have 2, but my boss, my clients and the judges would never know that. If I want to show them at the appropriate time then I could but in my work clothes they are covered. I like the tattoos that I have but am very happy that I can display them only when it is appropriate. JMO
I wouldn't want my kids' teacher or my wife's cardiologist to have sleeves, though. There is a wholesome, conservative image that is more appealing when I deal with professionals. I would guess that if I had a multi-million dollar litigation, I would probably not want the judge to, potentially, judge my lawyer based on his rebellious appearance.

To me, knowing to much information about the guy treating me or handling my business just makes me uncomfortable.
Tattoos give out info. If he has a rainbow, that's something I don't need to know. Skull and Xbones, again, I don't need to know that. But that's along the same lines as him flat out telling me he got drunk at the reunion 3 days prior.
None of that affects his performance, but it's just to much info, and doc's and lawyers usually have a more "private" nature, so a contradiction would surly catch me by surprise, not in a completely comfortable way.

doesnt matter, but it would probably be wise to put it in a place that can be covered... ink doesnt effect how they do their job...

So would you be ok for your kid's teacher or pediatrician to have full sleaves or a skull on his/her neck?

personally i dont care... reputation should speak louder than appearance... when one is looking for a lawyer or a pediatrician typically one spends time doing research on how good a particular lawyer or pediatrician is... not what they look like... i do believe that if a teacher has a tattoo it has to be in an inconspicuous place or can be easily covered up...

you know its the funniest thing ....
My girl friend has a full back piece as well as tattoo's on her colar bone ,leg. Yet she has a huge stack of awards for teaching . She makes more money then the assistant director of the school .
Its amazing that people are judged on their ability and not their personal expressions of style .

Personally I would rather have somebody with tattoos/piercings that can do their job. Rather than some plain jane no nothing that can't do their job.

Why do people think southerners are dumb, we are smart enough NOT to live where it gets colder outside than in my freezer...
I don't know, it would depend, if I walk into to a pediatricians office and the dude's name is carlos and he has 3 tears on his cheek I'd walk right back out. Or nudes and stuff. but my brother in law has some awesome tats. If he folds his arms on one arm is the texas flag and the other is the come and get it flag. Just dang cool.

I don't think southerners are dumb. I think the southern drawl is lazy, and I definately would not want a doc, or lawyer with that quality.
If they cannot do something as simple as speak correctly, I will not waste my time with them.
I mean, (if you do not already have the drawl) then pick a word any word and say it as lazily as you can. Imagine yourself drunk if you have to, and viola, a strong southern drawl...

I would not care a bit if a Dr. walked in the exam room full sleeved with demons. If he/she is a good dr.,teacher, etc. what does it matter? I guess I speak with a biased opinion since I am pretty heavily tatted. I think it boils down to fear of the unknown..
