What do you mean? It gets my water to a tds of 2....from a tap tds of 38....
I'm so confused....

Just out of curiosity...what is an average tds measurement of unfiltered tap water?

Maybe I should have said this:
I have some sort of water tap filter thing...without it my tds meter measures my tap water at 38...with a NEW filter it measures a TDS of 2....Is that ok? (until I can buy a REAL ro/di unit)

Yeah Ms. Kitty, it will suffice until you get a RODI unit. Your question about sooner than later IMO sooner.

I have that 5 stage RO/DI unit you pictures. Mine TDS from tap is 600-800. After RO its 30ish? After the RO/DI its single digits and been just fine. I did just replace filters and should test it again but our water is TERRIBLE and I have a full reef with no problems.

The tap water filter being used with a reading of "2" is pretty good for the limitations of what you are using. And, yes, its better than 38.
Personally, I like Airwaterice RO/DI. The price is way more reasonable than those $500 units, and they are basically the same thing. The value of these units is in the filters that goes into the housing. I achieved zero with Airwaterice RO/DI....and I hooked it up to my fridge so that I could actually enjoy clean water as well.

So, when the TDS starts to go up, are all filters changed at the same time? (Meo, another hijack but you did say you don't mind sharing :) )
When mine hit 1, I ordered the replacement filters and was planning on changing them all this weekend. The replacement filters were a total cost of $65 (I have a 4 stage) so I look at it as cheaper to replace them all than to have to replace anything in any of my tanks.
FYI Meo, my tapwater TDS is around 260.
