Fortunately, it's all set up on AUTO though, so it's no more work on my part....

I have 2 ro units. Neither reads zero but both are low compared to my tap.(700 tds)
I would not put to much faith in the actual number your TDS meter reads because most of them are calibrated at a single point and have no adjustment for the span. Translation: Your meter may read zero but unless it has been calibrated at zero it is probably not realy zero. Don T.

I also change my di when it is anything over zero. Just about any ro/di unit should read zero when filters are new. I think some of you are confused. Most RO alone should filter 97-99% then by running it through the di it should take it down to zero.

Not really. Typically, a RO membrane will allow some Phosphate and Nitrate through. If you have a TDS reading of 10 then nearly all of that is going to be Phosphate & Nitrate. If you're not going to use a DI then you may want to try a Hi-S membrane.
