Teflon tape

Can I use Teflon tape for my overflow box threads?
If not is there another suggestion for linking threaded pipes?

Yep!
I've switched to the paste but the tape will definately work well.

I prefer the tape, except on gas threads. It will stay alive in my tool box a lot longer
