Well I like mine to be around 80-81 but I have to use my heater. What size tank do you have that you can keep it at that temp without a heater?

Upper limit is 82-83 degrees. So 81 is fine provided it doesn't flutuate more than 2 degrees up or down in a 24 hr cycle.

A constant 80 sounds good to me. I run mine between 78-80. With just heaters my tanks are about 78.. when the halides kick on it usually adds a degree by the end of the day even with fans.

What else is in it? and if your tank stays at 79-80 regardless of other temps...you should be good..IMO

I wouldn't worry about it
The ocean flucuates more than that in a day. Anything constant within a degree or two within the acceptible range is fine -- something like 76-82ish depending on the person

right now there is only live sand and rock in it
So you don't even need your lights....apparently this is a new set-up?
In my new 29g that I have rock, sand and now a few snails, I only keep the actinics on

Welll...if that is the case...LOL...I have NO LFS...I purchase all my livestock off this site...and I have got to say...I have always been extremely satisfied....You might want to look into that option.

Yes! Finally, someone agrees with me on the max temperature fluctuations of 2 degrees.
And a typical ocean reef fluctuates less than 1 degree in a 24 hour cycle.
