What is the best temperature to try and maintain in a reef tank? I have been shooting for 76-78...is that about right?? Also have a fowlr tank also, should it be the same temp?

Reef tanks should ideally be kept at 82 IMO.
Fish only, I would think it depends on what kind of fish and where they come from in the wild. :D
EDIT: Can't take credit for "fish only" That's Bangs advice.

Does everyone else agree with 82..everytime I check on some of the softie recommendations, and even the fish in my reef they seem to say between 72 and 78...thanks again

I normally keep mine at 78 but now that I added extra airation my temp. is only 76 so I have to get a bigger heater. Less heat lowers aggression and algae growth, my mine reason for doing so.

I agree with bigarn that you need to research their animals and find a good tempthat they can all do well with.
For my system 82 seems to work very well. Your results may vary.

thanks for the responses everyone..guess I ned to raise the temp a little..But I too, have been battling an algae bloom..should I leave it where it is a while and see if it helps with the algae..I've already cut back on the lighting and the feeding, and tried phosphate removing filter pads..It sems to be slowing down a bit though..Again thanks for all the responds...

Higher temps seem to speed everything up. I noticed an increase in algea growth when I raised mine to 81 +/- 1 but it went away almost as fast it came.
