To all of the brave men and women who have answered the call and who stand guard ever vigilant today, many of you gave your service in times of peace while others have fought abroad, on our own soil, and who are still fighting wars now. Wars that are all too often unpopular. Let it be known that we still and always will support you. We understand that you follow your orders without hesitation or complaint and that you alone are left with a burden on your shoulders. For this we owe you a debt that cannot be repaid but we try our best by honoring you on days such as this. Thank you for your sacrifices and your courage and may you never be forgotten.

Remember Veterans Day and thank a veteran or active service man or woman.

Just put my flag out and a couple weeks ago I got to visit with a WW2 vet for about an hour. The old guy was a intellegence officer in the Navy and took part in the planning of the D-Day invasion, then voluteered to go to a air wing in the Pacific that was waiting to in China to help invade Japan. Served out the rest of his career and was involved in Korea also.
I also thank all those that have served and are serving.

I got to talk, mostly listen on a guy that was army intelligence during WW II. Fascinating to listen to all the stuff this guy knew. Could have listened to him for hours.

I would have like to talk longer, but we where at Costco. LOL
He was able to give me some information on how my great uncle who was a glider pilot the night before D-day ended up in the Pacific. They thought an invasion of Japan was going to be bad news and since he was no longer needed to fly a glider it was straight into the infantry.

My uncle was on his way to Japan when they dropped the bombs. He dodged a billion bullets there.

My grandfathers on my dads side both were in WW2 his dad was a Ball Turret Gunner on a B-24 whose First Mission was the Low Level raid on the Oil Fields of Pelosti the Other one was a Radioman on a Navy LST in the Pacifc he was in Every major invasion from the Canal to Iwo Jima and his ship was supposed to be in the first wave of Downfall. He for one after being part of bringing our men home from the POW's camps still swore til the day he died said we should have wiped them the entire Japanese Race off the face of the nation. Reason why he felt like that was simple he helped bring home some of the Battan Death March Survivors that were in the Home Islands of Japan and had been used for Bayonet Practice Straved used for Target Practice and other things. The Camp he helped bring home the Commander wanted to Liquidate all the POWS in it. The POWS even had gone so far as decide which ones would charge the Machine gunners to try and take over the guns to try and stay alive. This was the Enemy we dropped the Atomic Bomb on to End WW2. This is the kind of enemy we are fighting now.

Grandpa served in France during WW I.
Dad served multiple combat tours in Korea(3) and Vietnam(2). I was notified earlier this year that he was awarded the "Conspicuous Service Cross and Conspicuous Service Star (posthumous)". - http://thedailynewsonline.com/news/article_153dfefa-b199-11df-bd41-001cc4c002e0.html
I miss him. He was a true patriot.
I'm proud I was able to serve in the Middle East during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I don't imagine it's up to the level of my ancestors service to country.
