The BIG Mantis weekend

The time has come, the mantis who has been living large for 6 months must go.
My friend, also has a mantis so here is the idea.
History
We have 2 tanks 1 (215) 280lbs of LR and 1 (270) 300lbs of LR and we plan on doing both tanks on the same day. Start ealy and just keep working till the job is done.
************THE PLAN***************
We have a general idea where they are located so we are going to yank the rock and flush him out but have some questions.
Option #1
1) When I pull the rock out, I do not want to have much die off, so I am planning on the following. A) dip the rock in water from the tank to wash the rock off B) dunk the rock in seltzer. C) dunk the rock in high salentity D) Dunk the rock in Low salentity. I plan on repeating this until he comes
out.
Option #2
2) I was planning on using a kiddie pool, stack the rocks in milk creates and pour water from the tank on the rocks until he come out.
Not sure what is the best way but figured I would ask :notsure:

Take a large rubber tote and put about three inches of regular tank water in it, then put a powerhead into the tote and attach a hose then procceed to spray down the rocks in it, usually repeated sprayings will encourage hiding critters to find refuge by dropping down into the tote this is similar to the method used by LR harvesters to help remove hitchikers, using this method you will be able to salvage anything that falls into the tote that you want to save, and not kill off your LR anymore than needed. hope this helps a bit. good luck with the mantis.

It should be a good time had by all except the mantis.
How much die off do you think will happen? Enough to cause a problem?

using the spray method almost none. maybe some air sensitive sponges that would be about it as long as you keep everything nice and wet.

Don't do the hypo, hyper, seltzer, etc. You will definitely have die-off if you do that. Do the kiddie pool method and put a piece of hose on a powerhead and blow in every hole on every rock until the dirty bugger falls out or comes out on his own. When you isolate a rock he is hiding in, coax him to come out with the powerhead rigged up to a hose or bust the rock with a hammer and do as you wish with the mantis. Most fish stores will readily accept one for good credit because they are hard to find. If not, sell it on the widely-known and publicized auction site.
Keep us posted on how you make out!

I will keep you posted. Never thought about the pictures, but will take some.
This will be an interesting weekend.
Thanks for the good ideas also. I need this mantis out of my tank to begin some type of enjoyment.
No fun paying for something you do not enjoy.

they don't suck!!!!!!!!!!! i understand the hatred people have twards them. i would be pissed if expensive fish started disapearing. but if you ever keep a mantis you'll see that they are fascinating creatures.
any way good luck with the hunt.

Hey that is a VERY cool day.....
Well the seven thing started a long time ago. It has nothing to do with gambling or aircraft.
When I was in the 8th grade won a raffle on ticket# 777 and from there sevens have come up frequently. Recevied a refund check for $777.00. Hit RWB sevens on a mahcine in Vegas. License plate on my first car was 777-DMH, plate on my 3rd car 7774JL. I was able to get a vanity plate "777" for my auto. Did a loto quick pick 7-17-27 and won.
People have favorite numbers mine just happens to be 777.

yep i have a thing for 7 as well. when i play a sport my number has to be a multiple of 7. when i write checks to pay bills i round up the cents to .77. my alarm clock is always set for a time like 7:35, 6:07.lol. it's really a OCD. if it gets any worse i willl need professional help.

Undestand what you mean by OCD. I tend to let the number come to me and not me to it. Like this shot. My vanity plate is the exception though. You should get a 7 plate for you car... Pretty cool.

wow, i was wondering what had happened to your mantis, didn't realize you were still battling with it.
its been in your family so long why not set him up a tank all by himself? :)

He has been in the tank for quite some time but I feel my luck is running out. When he bangs on the rocks sounds like a pool hall

I do have a home for him if he wants to come out and play. If not he and his rock will be tossed
