thanks.... i love the LED lights....when i saw them in another persons tank i had to get them.... make sure to get the blue ones.... the green and red dont have the same effect..... iv heard that the LED lights are healthy for the coral and fish aswell..... something to the effect that its never really too dark in shallow reefs at night

My only concern with the moonlights was that the corals were not closing at night like they did before the moonlights. I became concerned that not getting any down time, or rest state, would be possibly harmful in the long run so I quit using them. Is this off the wall?

I run mine for 2 hours (til midnight) after the actinics go out. They get a little down time when the clouds are out or the moon phase is new in the ocean. I have run mine for 11 1/2 months now and no ill effects that I can see.

im not sure how you guys have your LEDs pointed but i point mine directly up into the reflector so that the light disperses all over the tank so its not so consentrated.....and my coral all seem to sleep the same as before..... but on the other hand iv only had the LEDs for a month now and i have only been in this hobby for 6 months..... so dont take my word if its bad or not..... the pic i posted was with a LED flash light pointed directly at the frogspawn.... and thats how i got it to look so intense.....

Jugger, thanks for the info. I have my LED's pointed directly into the water. Turning them to face the reflector might turn this into a whole different ballgame where I will be less hesitant to use them.
I'd also like to know if you are using blue, white or red LED's. I currently have the blue but am thinking the white or red may be less intrusive on fish sleep cycles. Input anyone?

i checked out that miraclebeam site and they've got some pretty cool stuff. i'm thinkin of getting the moonbeam light and also the laser lights
just got off the phone with my walmart and they said they don't stock em. the miraclebeam site says that walmart is a distributor of them BUT they don't specify what actual products walmart carries. i also tried doing a "miraclebeam" keyword search on walmart.com and came up with nothing.

For my moonlights I'm currently using the Miracle Beam lamp only, I didn't buy the kit. I bought a lamp and a dc power converter in the electronics section. I bought one with multiple voltage choices for some control over how bright it would go without going over the recommended voltage. I wired them together and it works great. I do like the Idea of shining it at the reflector though, I'll have to try that.
