Our new Marine!
Graduated on Friday from recruit training at Parris Island. Meritorious promotion to private first class. Selected to be the series guide for 4 of the 7 platoons of Alpha Company. He accompanied the series gunnery sgt during the ceremony. He's the one carrying the red flag. Needless to say we are extremely proud!

I was so close to becoming a marine myself. having a recruiter and everything ready. but i found my love, life, passion for the marine aquatice life. if i dont accomplish my goals i will do my best to become a United States Marine. May god bless you all and our fellow troops.

The pics with the old date were taken with an old 35 mm camera. The settings must be off. The others were taken with a digital. If you ever opt to join, I wish you the best.

The training is intense. He's glad basic is over but he still has extensive training to go. He has yet to wear his blues but he'll be doing some recruiting assistance next week so he'll have them on. The uniforms are really sharp!

Semper Fi and congrats to your son. Thats a long 12 weeks 5 days on the island... Doesn't look like the scenery has changed much in 13 years.
Wish him the best.

Marine basic is 12 weeks. I know Navy is 9 but not sure about the others. The DI's are incredibly tough as you mentioned. One of the "greenbelts" looked like he was 18 but could run circles around the entire platoon wearing an 80 lb pack. A lot of the toughness is mental but they are very physically conditioned.
