It's a great time of year for us basketball and hockey fans. So here's your opportunity to show a little love to your team, post your predictions or just plain talk playoffs in general.
It's a nice time to be a sports fan in Michigan. The Wings locked up the president's cup last night (again) and seem to have no weaknesses going into the post-season. Now this doesn't always translate to Stanley Cups but the Wings have to be considered the favorite at this point. They have the best defensemen in the league (Lidstrom) and two scoring superstars (Zetterberg and Datsuyk). Prediction: Stanley cup baby!!

The Pistons are wrapping up another excellent season. Their bench looks much improved with the evolution of Jason Maxiell and our young guards, especially Stuckey. Been to five straight Eastern Conference finals and look forward to an Eastern Final matchup with Boston, or a rematch with Cleveland. Question marks with this team are the coaching and the play of Sheed and Tayshaun Prince. These two guys have the talent to dominate a game at both ends of the court but they also seem to have a habit of disappearing periodically. When they disappear at the same time it puts a ton of pressure on Rip and Chauncey to score 30 each. Prediction: Pistons to finals then lose to San Antonio

If wings win, is Detroit going to ashes again?
San Antonio in the West? No way. And I don't think my little Mavs have much of a chance, I don't like Kidd leading the team as I like run and gun over 1/2 court offense. Suns and Lakers in Western finals.....Lakers will be to much with Kobe and Pau (even though he doesn't know how to spell "Paul"
Boston Lakers classic rematch of the 80s Lakers win

If my Hurricanes win tonight against the Panthers, we clinch the Southeast. With Stall at the top of his game, I see another Cup run coming.

The playoffs haven't been a great time of the year for Michigan sports fans in years

Good call (NBA and NHL championships in '89,'90, '96, '98, '02 and '04). You Illinois-ers haven't tasted greatness since MJ left for Washington.

Who's from Illannoys? I am a Laker's fan (no room to list all the championships here
) could care less about hockey except for those mutants that chuck the octopi on the ice, root for 3 teams in the NFL, the raiders (It's an illness like being a lions fan) and whoever is playing the pats or cowbouys. Baseball, who really cares anymore. Give me NHRA and NASCAR any day. Even getting back into Indy cars

Wild how things have progressed...
Wings have won 9 straight playoff games and go for their second series sweep in a row tonight. The NHL record for playoff wins in a single season is 11 straight.
Pistons just finished off Orlando in 5. We are waiting for the winner of the Cleveland-Boston series. From watching the playoffs, I hope Boston wins as Detroit has trouble stopping Lebron's dribble penetration. Boston is a jump shooting team and has not been overly impressive in these playoffs... haven't even won a road game yet. It looks like the first team in that series to get a road win moves on. Chauncey Billups has a strained hamstring which is a concern.
Over all I am loving these playoffs. Feeling much more confident about the wings winning it all than the Pistons. Wings are rolling right now. Pistons haven't faced a real tough test yet. But you have to give credit where due... 6 straight conference finals is pretty impressive.
BTW, I still think the western conference finals will be Spurs-Lakers, which would be awesome. Neither Utah or New Orleans has the sack to get past the conference finals, even if they do pull out this round.

I like the Pistons to go to the finals now....Assuming Chauncey is healthy which I think he will be in a week.
Lakers to win it all
I like the Suns to win it all next year

Yep, the Wings are hot right now, got a good chance at the cup this year.

I think the Pistons will get to the finals but I don't know if they can win it all.

Where are all the sports fans?????
Am I the only one who thinks that the Spurs are still going to pull out this series despite being down 3-2?

Spurs will win tonight, but will LOSE game 7 in N.O.
The Celtics are looking more and more like a farce and should get by the Cavs, I dont understand why they cant win an AWAY game when they were such road warriors during the season. The rumor is not ENOUGH cohesion yet? Even so, the Pistons will not beat the Celtics in a 7 game series assuming each team holds home court. This is the last open crack of a window for the Pistons whose window of opportunity is just about "CLOSED" I loathe the Pistons who are critically acclaimed as being the "BRAVES" of basketball.
I AM NOT A believer of the Lakers yet, They are missing something, Like some kind of toughness I just cant put my finger on yet, seems like a bunch of foreign sissies! I will have to go N.O./BOS with Boston in 7...

The pistons IMO will be good for a few more years at least... but I am a homer. Maxiell, Stuckey, Amyre Johnson represent a nice nucleus of young players for the future. Rip, Chauncey and Tay have some more good years. It's only Sheed and McDyess who are getting old quickly. One nice free agent big man keeps the Pistons train rolling for the near future.
I agree with you about the Lakers. They get so much pub because they are Lakers. Besides Kobe, no one has significant playoff experience and his rings came as a complimentary player to the big guy. They are not ready yet but have had a great year.
However it would be really cool to see 3 of the final 4 teams be LA, Boston and Detroit. This is basketball the way I watched it growing up. I do think that if the Spurs are eliminated then the champion will come from the east.

Complimentary player?!?!? Come now Crimzy....Steve Kerr was complimentary player, Rick Fox, Robert Horry, Ron Harper...He's the best player on the planet now, he has never been a "complimentary" player on any team in his entire life.
They get pub because they are the Lakers, because they have the best player in the league, but don't forget they have the best record in the far superior Western Conference.....Cleveland, Toronto, Washington, Atlanta, and Philly would have been watching the playoffs if they were in the West.
