Right, a constantly evolving culture. Evolving, meaning changing. How can you say that we should return to anything and use the word evolving? English speaking "Americans" were born and breed here? No, they were not. They migrated here. The people of the land had to adapt to their culture.
Key word here is evolving CULTURE, not CULTURES. And the return is to a single language. Our willingness to embrace aspects of other cultures not only enhances our own but makes it more inviting to those who migrate here.
Funny thing is the majority of people who migrate here want to learn english and fit in. It's elitist snobs who were born here for the most part who seek their identity from their ethnicity that push the multiculturalism crap to the point of making it divisive.
I spent my teenage years living in a Barrio, most of the kids I hung with spoke perfect english but most of their parents had spanish accents. The parents wanted their kids to speak english because they understood that was the key to success. As an adult I had several friends who were from Vietnam. Their english was broken but their kids spoke perfect english.
In both cases learning the dreaded english language didn't rob these people of their cultural identity any more than it did for the Irish or Italians a hundred years ago.
