No argument from me. I would have to agree with that, not sure about his numbers, but it is time for a change in how things are done in this country. And, why can't we all just be Americans, I don't agree with all that hypenated crap, you are only adding to the problem of separation.
Call it the third revolution then.

Your storm trooper armor won't help you in this "linguistic" battle, if that is indeed applicable here...not sure if this would fall into morphology...hmm

America is, and has been "The melting pot". We accept all cultures and nationalities into our country. Now we should demand "one culture" and "one religion" for fear of diversity??? Are you kidding me? We are diverse. That is what makes American people grand. We are not all the same and are proud of our culture. This is America. Home of the brave and land of the free. I would not want it to be any other way!! "One land, one culture, one language"??? That is not my America. I would like to see the stats that he is giving on here. 40% of high school graduates read at a fourth grade level? Where is this information coming from? The flood victims from New Orleans were forgotten? Certainly I agree with the stop of illegal immigrants. If they are going to live and work here then they should have documentation. The rest is nonsense IMO

You must not be much of a student of history. What made this country great was the melting of many cultures into one constantly evolving one. And yes, we should RETURN to out history of a single language. Once upon a time it was unthinkable that someone would migrate here and expect us to adapt to their culture and language.

Right, a constantly evolving culture. Evolving, meaning changing. How can you say that we should return to anything and use the word evolving? English speaking "Americans" were born and breed here? No, they were not. They migrated here. The people of the land had to adapt to their culture.

Main Entry:
melting pot
Function:
noun
Date:
1887
1 a: a place where a variety of races, cultures, or individuals assimilate into a cohesive whole b: the population of such a place.
Cohesive whole is the key word. But we now have separative groups. Its not one nation anymore. I see it this way, either your American PERIOD or you something else, and if you fall into the something else category then i hope you enjoyed your stay. Now go back to where ever it was that you came .
And the man never said one religion BTW

I am a English speaking American and i may even fall into the 40% range, but i will not press 1 for English and i will not attach a hyphen to my American heritage.I was made in America .And dam proud of it.If you where to migrate to lets say France or Japan,do you think they are going to accommodate you illiteracy in their language?I think not.You better start learning their language or your going to be S.O.L.

Key word here is evolving CULTURE, not CULTURES. And the return is to a single language. Our willingness to embrace aspects of other cultures not only enhances our own but makes it more inviting to those who migrate here.
Funny thing is the majority of people who migrate here want to learn english and fit in. It's elitist snobs who were born here for the most part who seek their identity from their ethnicity that push the multiculturalism crap to the point of making it divisive.
I spent my teenage years living in a Barrio, most of the kids I hung with spoke perfect english but most of their parents had spanish accents. The parents wanted their kids to speak english because they understood that was the key to success. As an adult I had several friends who were from Vietnam. Their english was broken but their kids spoke perfect english.
In both cases learning the dreaded english language didn't rob these people of their cultural identity any more than it did for the Irish or Italians a hundred years ago.

nope, it was the second Revolution. Your denial of that indicates you may need to look up the definition of "Revolution".
I wont argue semantics with you ,it off the topic and it really isn't relevant to this post.

actually, it's not at all off topic, because I clicked into a thread titled "the second American Revolution" expecting a discussion on the Civil War.

So the basis of this clown's rant was that diversity is something that must be defeated and that tolerance will lead to a nation's downfall. You call this guy a great American???
This guy has more in common with the Nazi's ideals than our forefathers.

So i guess your content with the way things are now?Do you have a problem with English becoming the national language? Maybe you enjoy sending your hard earned tax dollar to countries that hate us. Nazi Ideals ....Give me a break.

There's a middle ground. To suggest that tolerance is the downfall of a nation and that diversity must be oppressed is not only outrageous but its immoral.
Regarding illegal aliens then, of course, we need to do our best to address that. You will never stop them all but you do the best you can.
I agree with you about sending my hard earned tax dollars to countries that hate us. How much of my hard earned money has been devoted to "liberating" Iraq, (which bore no threat whatsoever to the US)? I agree that it's outrageous to do such a thing but I'm confused... aren't you a pretty outspoken proponent of the war?
Since you agreed wholeheartedly with this guy, then of course you have no interest in social tolerance among races, nationalities, religion. Diversity is a horrible thing, huh? Do me a favor... don't procreate.
