I'm a new member to the water change club ^_^
Ive been stress testing my system for the last 4 months to see what I can get away with. I just started doing WC last week, I plan to swap 15g later tonight for my weekly 10%.
WC is a vital step in adding key nutrients to your water. Its not mandatory, but it is a great practice. As far as needing it for removing waste...my foam wall, scrubber, and Carbon/GFO did superb. Now that Ive added a skimmer and WC to the mix, I cant wait to see how it looks in 2 months.

Ya, everyone seems fine. Not happy, but fine. And it HAD to be the tank with my 2 favorite fish in it.

Never done FW, or even really read up on it.
Do you have to dose anything to sustain nutrient levels?
If this is for me, I use the diy two part on the salt tanks to maintain calcium, carbonates (alk), and magnesium. On the FW nothing. I do find the peat moss in the substrate help maintain constant KH and gh in Fw. Otherwise they slowly climb.
edit: nitrates and phosphates are unmesureable and pH (api high range test kit) is 8.4-8.8 on all tanks including FW.

15 gal water change every sun morn. 90g rr / 30 gal sump prob 100 gal total sys vol. I can tell when it is needed, or if I get lazy and skip a week. I don't test and have not done so for almost a year. Make my own salt/ro water and do test that for sg, phos. Other than that things seem to be good. I run cheato in the sump on a reverse lighting cycle.

I did a 45g water change on my 210 and a 50g on my 100 freshwater on Monday. I have been lax due to extensive knee surgery, but could not take looking at the water. I usually do a 25 to 30g water change every two weeks, especially on my saltwater.

I try to do a 10-15g every week on the 54 and 20-25g on the 144. But this thread has inspired me to count my used buckets of salt. I have had a 54g tank for about 14 months and a 120 traded for a 144 about 4 months. If I have read the bucket correctly 200g per bucket that equals 1000g of used water in 14 months.
