So I just checked my thermometer and its reading 110 and climing fast? Put my fingure in the water, it was warm but didnt seem anywhere near this reading? I am using a didital thermometer and wonder if this is the problem? Anyone had this problem before? (I unpluged the heater just in case p.s) If digi thermometers are no good what would be a better choice?

Do you have another thermometer you can try? I have digitals and the cheapo glass for backup.....no problems with either on my end

I have both an electronic and a glass thermometer for this reason. Digital thermometers are not always the most reliable!!

oddly enough, the most reliable I've found is the "digital" that sticks on the tank. They are about two dollars at wal-mart. I didn't trust it at first, so I bought a glass thermometer with a suction cup to go inside the tank. Guess which one failed first? the temp of the glass tube inside the tank always matched what I read on the front of the tank on the sticker thingy :p. Sometimes I still debated buying a true digital, until this thread that is haha

I remember looking at thermometers at a lfs quite a while ago. I think there were 5 on the shelf. No two had the same temp reading and there was at least 8 degrees between high & low.

Haha I might have to try one of those as it seems my digital has failed again (its going back tomorrow). I think I might exchange it for a new one and buy a glass one or maybe one of the other "digital" ones. Darn Things, just want my future fish to be happy.

The thing about thermometers: Unless you have at 3, and 2 read the same, you'll never quite believe it.
