I had it like that but thought that they daylight over in that part of the world was more intense than ours. Plus I dont have actinics so I just have it on a little longer to enjoy it. But Ill cut it back to 10am to 6pm tomorrow. Can I just reset the timer or should I acclimate them?

In the tropics there are only about 12 hours of daytime and 12 hours of night. Peak light intensity is only for a few hours. In the northern hemisphere we actually have longer daylight hours than where the fish came from. Albeit the intensity is not as bright but they don't get nearly the hours of sunlight that we do.
My lights only stay on for about 7 hours and really that might be too much...

10 hours is perfectly fine as long as you don't have a 400 watt halide over there. Even if the parts of the day that are at peak intensity are shorter, for the most part, it is also way more intense. 8 hours definitely won't hurt anything in the least, but 10 hours wouldn't cause bleaching.

if you treat the zooxanthellae as an algae, and plants and algae grow faster in the dark, you just gave it 90 hours a month more.

That's because that is when they undergo more respiration. They still need the sufficient amount of light to produce the sugars. I'm not saying that 8 hours is too little, just that there is a happy medium in there... And that 10 hours a day is NOT too long. :p

You said, "unless they have 400 watts..."
Why did you say that?

A "sufficient" amount of light should be standardized by the reef itself, and while corals "can" be OK in 10 hours of intense lighting, why would you ?
8 hours is 2 hours closer to their natural intense light, whether that's 6 hours or 7...
And again, the monti cap is about the lowest light SPS, (well that and the digi), so if it's looking off then I see no harm in catering to him for a while.

And maybe we'll see if all of Paintballer's corals color up better.

My dad actually increased the schedule a few weeks ago from 8 to 11, and since then I realized my palythoas morphing. Was a bland brown with a green mouth, now the green is growing and even turning to a bit of a yellowish. Ill get pictures when I can but its been kind of busy lately.
For now, all I want to do is keep montiporas, the digitata and capricornis. If my cap bites the dust, Ill buy a new frag, but only after I start putting new things into measure. Im going to be excited once my water gets work out

Haha. When I got the tank, it had the stock power compact lighting and had no plans to upgrade to metal halides, so i had a friend give me some frags of loose corals he had. Of course all those being palys and mushrooms haha. Now Ive got the MH and I want more variety, so dont be surprised if Im selling some large rocks on the Live Selling forum

Okay heres the deal everyone. I ordered the protein skimmer and a Red Sea brand Phosphate test kit (per my friends recommendation). Being a sunday, theyll hopefully ship out tomorrow and Ill have them soon.
Also, due to my bioload on the tank, Im going to be finding a new home for my Coral Beauty Angel, leaving only my 2 1/2inch Maroon Clownfish.
I hope this to be a semi-long term solution to my dissolved organics issues.

Test kit and Protein Skimmer are in!!! Protein skimmer has been running for a day and is producing a beautiful brown, smelly gunk.
I tested for the phosphates, and between 3 different opinions, we all agree that it was between 0.1 and 0.2 ppm. I bought a Seachem Phosguard again just to make sure. Im also switching to exclusively RO/DI water, so I hope the combination will lead to good things.
Doing a 10 gallon water change in a few, hope it helps.

Read the instructions for the phosguard, because i think its supposed to be taken out after just a few days. It should drop them quickly.
Congrats on the skimmer too, you should notice a change in your tank very quickly!!

Thank you, the phosguard lasts 4 days, and you are to use 100 mg per 30 gallons. Ive got it on my calendar. The protein skimmer continues to bring up deliciously disgusting stuffs so Im excited for it to actually start lowering my levels to the point where my water gets a bit better. Plus I did a 10 gallon change yesterday
