He is a she :) Kim lol and they were feeding it gold fish ! It wants no part of frozen today but bought a dozen ghosts and 2 other fish. Not food fish but after that video I just watched on here who knows ....... Ones a yellow tang and a angel that was bad looking. Came from really bad water quality and not being feed right so it's skinny and dull colored but very hungry do I think it will be ok. It didn't try the ghosts but was eating the little frozen missis from the cubes I put in for the other fish. And the angel ate all but 2 ghosts in under 20 mins so I guess I'm going to get a few dozen more tomorrow. I'll post the pics under this, I forgot the name of the angel but knew it when I bought it lol.

not the greatest pic, the lion is floating while the sand is still settling. But look at the "oops" I made with the big blue rock on the left, still fits because its a raised lid lol

yet another not great pic from the reflections, the lowes bucket and extension cords really aren't in the tank. The red paint that I hated isn't really that bad with the black sand and If I ever get a good pic of the lion it really makes his color pop.

best I could get of the lion because he was hiding behind the big orange rock.

cortez angel fish I think is the right name, the little white specs are food. I had to bribe the fish out of hiding. I was told he can get up to 12" and hes gotta be at least 6" now.

If you look at the bottom of that tank it has the sump that is full of bioballs on one side and like a 12*20 area that is the water return. I was thinking of putting rubble live rock in there to help with filtration and putting a refuge where the bio balls are to keep a good deep sand bed and grow the algea to help feed the the fish. would that be better than the bio balls?

Yes. Bio balls are dated and dont do as good a job people believed they used too...buy a cheap home depot light and a ball of chaeto and the rubble and you'll be set!

got the chaeto in a sock thing tied on with a mini flood light on it already. the tank is in my brothers garage thats going to be his office some day.....So we dont put the doors on the front and the light is about 2 feet away from the plexi glass so I dont melt it. Ill go tommorrow and get the rubble, its only 79 cents a pound so I think half a 5 gallon bucket will only cost maybe 25$ .

Cool! My sumps stocked with rubble and LR to help filtrate...the previous owner of my tank had corals and they died so they serve as LR rubble now..pretty sweet.

I just went to check on the fish, I know everyone drives15 mins each way at midnight to do that right? Someone said the other fish wouldn't get stung unless they are really stupid. Well the angels not looking to be the brightest crayon in the box, him and the lion where seriously cuddling behind the orange rock. I watched for a minute and then turned on the
Lights and they both came out happy as could be waiting for food. So I feed them more frozen mysiss and the lion did eat more of that. So he will eat dead frozen. I just have to find a way to get him to eat enough to stay healthy. I don't think the cubes are enough for him.

People used to think bio balls would hold beneficial bacteria well, but now they found out it doesn't do such a good job.

I don't plan on adding anymore rock to the main tank either. I want to be able to see where the lion is when I stick my hand in there. He can hide in and under the 2 artificial one and the center one is a real rock.

I am not sure where you have gotten this information or formed your opinion from but bio-media does hold many beneficial nitrifying bacteria.

it has been done for many years and many choose not to because of the maintenance of them, but that does not make them 'dated' nor unusable... just keep in mind that if you dont have personal experiance with something using 'what you have heard' and passing it on as quantifiable information does a disservice to you and the OP
