Tips for sticking a candy cane?

I got a nice piece of candy cane and I want to place it. It only has a stalk for a base. You know like a tree trunk. Only the darn thing didn't come with roots. I tried super glue with no success. I also managed to upset a few of the heads in my attempts. I hope they aren't damaged.
I even tried to find a hole in my LR to stick it in. Nothing worked out for me.
So any advice will be welcome. Maybe the putty??
So no one has to ask here is the new coral.
I have had it two weeks now.

Thanks meowzer,
I have just never got that stupid putty to stick.
IMO...It's hit or miss
everyone swears by super glue gel...I have that...I have the putty
NOTHING works 100% for me...and NOTHING works for me like it apparently works for everyone else

No, I bought it at a sorta local shop. It is about a 30 min drive for me.

I use CorAffix Gel to attach my coral to rocks. It is pretty strong and the saltwater actually activates it to bond it better. Try using that. That is a nice piece. How much did you pay for that?

You can kind of see mine in this picture. I have a 55 gallon tank. The coral that I bought came attached to a piece of rock already, but I still cant find a place to perminantly attach it.
If the coral is already attached to a pice of rock, would it be ok to simply wedge the coral (pressure being on the rock it is attached to) in between two pieces of LR?

Well I guess we lucked out in sticking ours down. Had just the right hole, no glues or lubes. Picked one up today, bad pic i know, took from above the water. I think I paid $42 for it, had to drive 50 miles (one way) to get it too.
