Take a pop bottle and cut off the drinking end. Then cut off the top third or so and then place it reverse back into the remaining 2/3. This will make a fish trap of sorts. Put a piece of string on the trap and some food in the trap and place it in your tank. Since it's a small tank, it shouldn't take too long.

Will he come up for food? If so, feed for a few days with a dip net right near the surface. When he is not afraid of it, feed and quick net him. Generally, you get one and only one chance at this. I am about 7 for 10 on that. Other than that, the fish trap!
