To fox(face) or not to fox

I've been wanting to add a safe, but venomous, fish to my coral reef tank for awhile now (is that a contradiction in terms ;) but I've got issues with SWF.com's listing of the foxface: it claims this fish IS reef safe, but that it can also survive in a 55 gal? Now, that's a fairly big lookin' fish, so what would you foxface owners say (and is it ACTUALLY reef safe?). I've got a 75-gallon tank with all manner of corals, crabs 'n clams, a couple tangs, dragonettes etc... and nothing particularly territorial. Is this an even remotely sane idea? Thanks.

I have only heard good things about foxfaces and was thinking about getting one once my tank is setup. I think it will do fine in a 75g tank and from what I have read they are a very peaceful fish. They only things you have to look out for are the venomous spikes on their back, but I have never heard of someones foxface poking another fish before. Just watch your hands when feeding and stuff like that.
So overall I would say it would be fine in a 75g reef. Not to sure about the tangs though.

Foxface are great fish. Although venomous, they are extremely docile. I had a small one in my reef for a bit but I took him back to the store as he was being bullied by my super aggressive GS Maroon clown (who I have also since returned to the store). It's kind of strange. Even though they are poisonous, they will usually be the victim if placed with an agressive fish.
Some sources say they may nip at LPS and soft corals although I never had a problem. I just provided Algae sheets daily. Down the road when I get a 125 gallon, the foxface is the first fish on my list.

Definately get one! I really miss my Foxie!
They're quite trusting fishies and really docile. Very hardy, too!

this is based on the size the fish is when you recieve it, not the size they will need as an adult.

I have one in a 92 corner with a lot of coral and he has never touched anything. Great fish.......moody. Changes color all of the time. Mine also sucks air and blows bubbles out his gills.

I love my foxface, he is really peaceful with the other fish. My puffer got accidently stung one time when they accidentally got too close to each other while eating. Puffer recovered after a couple of days. I got him when he was about 2 inches and now he is close to 5 inches.

If you do get one, make sure to get a onespot, Siganus Unimaculatus. I think they look better because of the black spot.
Note: I just noticed SWF.com lists Siganus vulpinus but shows a picture of Siganus Unimaculatus. The vulpinus does not have the spot.

Should I even consider getting one of these? I have small children in the house and I worry about having a venomous fish. Not that they play in the tank - they know to LOOK at the fish, not touch. But it only takes one time for one of them to want to hold the pretty fishy...sigh. Maybe when they're older.

from what i've read they aren't really that venomous. They are only about as venomous as a bee sting is so they are only really a concern if you have allergies to bee stings. Atleast thats what i've read... saying that if i had young children i probably would what untill they were alittle older before i got one.

I have one in my 300g at work and he's great, eats well, always has. He's never venemous, and i think there are about 6 tangs in there, as well as some large angels. Very docile.

Sorry but you shouldnt have two tangs in a 75g, if even one. I would say no to the foxface if this is the case.

I agree. I am sorry, I know you like the foxface, but they do get large and you already have large active fish.
