Todays water parameters....10 days after starting tank

the sheer math of it is impossible for it to drop 50% by doing less than a 50% water change. if you have 100 parts per million and you remove 20 million parts (or 20%) you cant possibly winds up with 50 parts per million, unless your telling me there was a higher PPM in the chunk of water your removed LOLZ. no worries mate, not trying to give you a hard time, I was just trying to make sure you double checked your results. IMO your test kit is probably bunk, since your saying you did the test correctly. I dont even know how many times I have miscounted drops doing water tests.

It is possible, although unlikely in this specific case. It has to do more with a DSB and/or good live rock coming into maturity coincidentally with the water change.

I had considered that and didn't think it likely in this particular case.the mathmatics are just wrong for it. I cant see it maturing in seconds at the time of water change under any situation. if it had been several days or aweek maybe it would be very possible but not in about 48 hours, bacteria just doesn't proliferate that fast.

:t^: keep testing and you will have your answer in time...
If when you test you log the cycles waste numbers ammonia , nitrite, and nitrate some of us could look at the trend and tell you if the numbers make sense. Because they are related as one leads to the other. Of course none of that is really necessary, as you read zero nitrate you can start to ghost feed, this will let you see if the bio-filter is doing the job or not. So if you keep feeding and the nitrate does not go up you are good...
