I was a cashier for a long time durring college and I was one of the few who could actualy count back change (and do math in my head) now I think it is kind of funny when the power goes out and I watch the cashiers at stores panic. Or even better is when after you give them your money and you then give them .16 cents and they look at you like you have grown a third eye. "no i want $2 instead of $1.84. But anytime I am short or over changed i let te cashier know.

I rarely have paper money. The only time I do is when I go to work because of the vending machines. If the machine suddenly spat out $20 dollar bills, I would take it and run.... they owe me at least that much from all of the money I've lost in their machine while trying to get my midnight Mocha Mud.
Now, I went home with an unpaid can of paint one time. I didn't go back. I would be more than happy to pay for it if they would personally come to my house.... but I'm not driving across town and waiting in line for their error.
Some of those take out people have to pay back what their till is out. Other places get in trouble if they are 5 bucks off....and get fired if that happens one too many times.
I agree, once I get home, all bets are off. I have no problem giving it back when you screw up. But you're going to come get it. Not me.

I love when you give the cashier 22.50 for a 17.50 item and they look at you like, why didn'[t you just give me a 20 like everyone else does. then they enter it in the machine and thier eyes light up like HEY! priceless

What amazes me is people have lost the ability to do simple math. I rarely look at the screen for the change I just know what it is when people hand me their money. Not that hard. I even had a kid that was being trained, how do I know what change to give (how many quarters, dimes, etc).

The sad thing is with all the "machines" to do it these days, even the kids don't learn change like we used to......
Another thing is phone #'s.....who needs to remember them when you can program them in your phone by name
