I will admit it can take some getting used to listening to Jack Whites solos with the white stripes because it is only him and meg but I still love everything he plays. And when you hear him with a full band behind him...WOW. check this clip out from a raconteurs show in Holland. SO MUCH PASSION

heres a different one.

you also cant count out the fact that he really does play soooo many different genres. he's got the raw garage style of the white stripes, rock n roll with the racs, has played with the rolling stones, did several songs in the soundtrack for the movie Cold Mountain which is all old folk/bluegrass stuff and even did a country song with Loretta Lynn

Here's Buchanan doing the same song I posted from G Moore earlier. Moore kinda takes it to a different level but RB's version is sweet as well.

Wow. I was beginning to think I was too old or uncool for this thread.

Anyway, I did a comparison to the songs. And I have to admit, Moore's version is better, crisper, or... I don't know more alive. Maybe Buchanan was high. He always was anyway. He could have been better than he was if he would of laid off the booze.
I'm gonna try to post a link. I really don't know how, so here goes nothing.
I was maybe... 10 when I first heard this. I can't remember. And I loved it.

Oh yeah. I'm gonna say something that is gonna make most of you roll your eyes and move along.
I love Tom Morello. Great guitarist. But when he is onstage with Audioslave? I cannot take my eyes off Chris Cornell. He has got to be the most beautiful specimen of a man. When he cut off his hair, I was like,"Oh? Heelllooo. How you doin'?"
And that officially takes me off the list of being taken seriously. But it had to be said.

1. Yngwie Malmsteen! - Amazing guitarist...rumors that Eddie Van Halen was afraid to jam with him. Eddie was baffled at what Yngwie was doing. EVH was listening to Yngwie's stuff when it came out and couldn't do what Yngwie did. hehe we know he was afraid of getting smoked by Yngwie! He pretty much created the SHRED genre.
2. Paul Gilbert = Cleanest Shredder alive! His Racer X stuff was intense!
3. Shawn Lane = Quite possibly the best Guitarist of all time. Unfortunate that he died. He was the fastest guy I've ever heard. And he can play the sweetest stuff as well. Even Vai, Paul Gilbert, etc. were in awe and blown away by him.
4. Akira Takasaki - Best Asian Metal Guitarist of all time! His stuff is blazing fast and more technical than EVH was.
5. Tony MacAlpine = Another Musical Genius, not only does he Kill on guitar, he also kills on the Keyboards!
6. Greg Howe = What can I say...incredibly underrated guitarist and probably the best African american guitarist.(He'd easily destroy Jimmy Hendrix it's not even funny)
7. Vinnie Moore....what can I say, I enjoy his work.
8. Marty Friedman ... Kirk hammet and mustaine don't even come close to this guy. Enough already! Even Jason Becker was way better than hammet.
9. Syu (Galneryus)
10. BucketHead ... anyone that knows guitar knows Slash don't even come close to BucketHead's skills.

The "best" guitarist depends on one's own personal taste. There really is no such thing as a best guitarist. We all know what we like. Just because some guy can shred at warp speed does not make him better than someone else.
IMO someone like BB King can convey immense feeling and emotion with just a couple of notes, but that does not make him "better" than someone else. It just makes him better for me.

I'd be willing to bet none of the people listed here can do the stuff Roy Clark did.
How many of you know who Stanly Jordan is? Pay attention about 2:35 into the clip.
