Trash UGF and in with LIVE SAND

I going to make the change in the morning but just wondering if anyone sees a problem!!!
I have a 29 gal tank and I am going to remove the CC and UGF and replace it with LS.
First I plan to drain the water into a tub and place the fish and live rock into the tube with old water. Then remove all CC and the UGF and then place 40# LS strait onto the glass. Attach powerhead to the side of tank pointing up. Replace old water into tank and replace all at the same time.
I would like to be cautious and hold the fish out for a while but I am limited to a small amount of resources:
1 rubbermaid tub that is 25gal
1 rubbermaid tub that hold 8gal "has 8gal tap water and salt that i mixed last night"
1 powerhead "in tank"
1 penguin bio-wheel 150 "in tank"
1 wisper 30-60 "used just to move water in tub with no filters"
1 protien skimer (Berlin Airlift 60) "in tank"
Any one have a best demonstrated practice?

You could use either or neither, you LS will now do most of your filtering. I use my HOB for water movement only, and a skimmer. Good luck, and good move!

What ever you are using for filtration then keep wet. If that is the bio wheel then keep it going when you drain the water by moving it over to where you put the water, this will help keep that bacteria alive.
On a 29 gal this should be a breeze, just post question here if you run into problems.

do you think i should worry about putting the fish right back in when i'm finished and I also plan to add 5# LR on monday. Do you think i should worry about a short cycle?

I would worry about a short or mini cycle with adding live rock. If its mail order you may want to setup a small tub to put it in and add some every week and keep an eye on ammonia spikes. If your just getting some from the LFS then you can purchase a few pounds at a time so it doesn't create a mini cycle.
I would think the fish could go back in in a hour or so. They can even handle dust storms.

while I have all the water out should i wipe off the sides of the tank or would it ge good to keep the little alge that i have?

Might as well clean the algae, it is of no benefit unless you have livestock that needs it to live. But you don't want it on the glass anyway.

Sounds really good,...So do you like the change?
Are the inhabitants reacting well to the change?
