Well I woke up this morning and was feed'n the fish when the niger started bouncing off the sand again. I maybe just overly paranoid at this point, however, I wanted to show you what I can see.

I put small UV back in mini reef, it kills ick and micro algae, does not impact coralline growth. Petsmart has 9 watt “Green Algae killing machine” buy an extra UV bulb, they run 3-6 months. 9 watt is up to 40 gallon, its a low flow application. 39 dollar insurance policy.
"just end the parasites with UV"
and be done with it. I did fresh water baths, copper, cleaning shrimp, in the end you have the plaque need to get rid of it, hospitals tanks, nice idea, but UV just kills them, they jump off every 24 hours for a new host and then they die. That's it, problem solved. 39 dollars at petsmart.

prh123: Very interesting, a lot of good reviews as well. I'll have to pick one up today. I hope it will fit in my sump!
Off to town to get my used 20 gallon for the fuge!!!! I'll watch this post to see if anyone else has an opinion since I'll be in town and can pick something up if needed.

Back in the day only pet stores had them because you had to plumb them in line, never looked at them again, I ran Ozone with a controller. Now they made them small, complete, and cheap, no plumbing, in tank or sump, “nice”.
Before I forget, rinse it out with hot water once and awhile, it collects detris, they have a blue sponge on intake to keep most of it out, I just took a brush cleaner to it, turn it off when I'm cleaning tank now.

Hmm looks like the biggest one is for 100gal, two of them @ $60 a pop is a bit more than I want to spend at the moment. Commish world here @ my house, maybe next week! I may pick one of them up this weekend and look into a 2nd next.
Ok off to do my WC for this week.

What water change done, ammonia is still up @ .15ish. I did a 15% WC and that is all the salt I had so couldn't change more of it. I'll give this a few days and do another change.
Whatever was on the trigger "white spots" seem to be gone now. I think I just have myself scared to death of loosing my fish and over thinking...... We shall see... Black on the tail is still a concern, however, only time will tell.....
Feeding went very well everyone ate and ate well... Triggers took down 3 of the mysis cubes and 1 plankton cube and split a silverside. Lion and Panther both ate silversides as usual. 1 for the Panther and 5 for the lion. Hermit crab got ahold of a silverside and it was gone i about 20 seconds! He loved it! Good fun, keeping positive!!

Not sure what the black is....maybe it is a niger thing...LOL....will have to check with a niger expert :)
IMO do not get a UV...they also will kill the beneficial bacteria....they have no way of distinguishing the good from the bad.....I ALMOST got one when I started until I learned that
have you had your water tested anywhere else for a 2nd opinion?????

meowzer: I didn't buy them couldn't find one and I saw you post. I cannot take the chance of killing good bacteria right now. I need to get it going so my Ammonia will go back down. I'm scared I've killed off a bunch of my bacteria by loading my salt improperly. Reading all the 101 posts again to make sure I get this right before I kill any fish!
Beth: I am preparing for Ich after reading your post about Ich. I picked up a 20 gal and I have a 10 gal that i can use for QT or HT. Going to finish up reading all the setup info and Ich info.
Today everyone ate except the panther. He didn't want anything to do with the silversides i'll try him again later in the day. The niger had mucus where the spots where yesterday morning and I am prepare'n for Ich. Tank is FO but I have my crab CC and LR to worry about. Going to do my research then setup the tanks according. Todays brain game with the QT and my filtration methods that I already own as options to consider. (wife may kill me for what i'm about to do to the kitchen!)
Thanks again for everyones input!!

Also read hyposalinity. How many fish do you have? All we need to be treated.

Beth: I read that and just finished painting up a 10gal and a 20gal. cleaned up all filters and old powerhead. going to get water to fill them and start to cycle them..... once i have the tanks setup going to read it all again...
I have 4 fish. niger, humu, lion and panther. panther and lion will be fine in one tank and the two triggers in the other...
If i have to wait on the two tanks to cycle I'm going to be in bad bad shape, i'm guessing?
with hyposalinity will I be doing this to the salt lvls on both the DT and the QT's?

Tom,
I would think getting a cleaner shrimp or perhaps a pair of cleaner shrimp would be beneficial to your niger. I know with my fish the cleaner shrimp actually cleaned the fish daily and the fish were very appreciative to get a nice cleaning every now and then. My suggestions are clean your tank out with a siphon, get all the sediment and fecal matter you can. Do about a 1/3 water change on your tank(s). After a few days go get your water levels tested. Those are some big fish though to have in that small of a tank. They honestly may be getting stressed out which will cause a number of fish illnesses including ick. Dont add to many chemicals at once, your fish will either get chemical burns or die. Bottom line clean the tank good then add in 1/3 new saltwater and then test the tank in a few days. Let me know how it goes and if he is still looking sickly get yourself a cleaner shrimp and he will help him out.

I agree that some of those fish are not for your tank, BUT.....I also think they eat shrimp....LOL...so not sure the cleaner will be a good idea.....I also don;t know that a 10 or 20Gwill be large enough for then for 6 weeks :(
ANYWAY.....you do hypo in the QT....and leave the main tank empty of all fish for 6-8 weeks....with no host ich should die off

Devon: Thank you for the input. Cleaner shrimp would be expensive food for the 4 of them I'm sure of it. Finding one big enough to not fit into the mouth of my lion would be fun... Triggers would pick it apart... You have to be able to hold your own with the 2 triggers or you dead meat... On the testing I do my own testing and just have the LFS double check my test once a month or so.. I seem to be doing "alright" with the testing.
meowzer: Agreed this is what scares the heck out of me, that is a long time to keep them happy in as small of a tank selection that I have. Might end up being plastic totes to the rescue... I now have a new shopping list of powerheads, heaters, testing equip. and such to contend with.
Ahh ok, QT tank gets hypo not main tank. I missed that twice, I'm a bit scatter brained so I'm not at all surprised....
Really got myself in a mess here with the Ich and two tanks to cycle....
*going back to read on hypo again & price out all this equipment on here and try to do it all in a timely fashion!*
Thanks again for all the help and advice!!!

This is the post I'm reading and it's confusing the hell out of me about which tank or tanks get the lowered salinity... Would I be better off pulling the rock and crabs putting them in the QT and do the OST in the MT where the fish have plenty of room?

Your sand would be no good either then
you could do LARGE rubbermaid totes for qt's.....one large one would work for all of them

When I was 16 my father told me while you still know everything you can get an apartment, I got that and a full time, and a part job. Within two years I was working my way through college, with 4.0 GPA so I could get a better job without experience. When I put that many fish in any tank, I had to run Ozone with a controller or something deadly would happen. Water was crystal clear, twenty or more aggressive fish in a 110, every triggerfish I could find, eels, puffers, groupers, file fish, think about it.
