If I'm playing with my money.......
I wouldn't give it a second thought, it would be the Reef Octopus over the Tunze......Bottom line.....Even if you have to save for a few weeks or months it would be well worth it.

If i wanted the 2000 external, I have enough money....I still need another pump? How much are they? If i need to save money, can i start keeping corals still w/out skimmer? I was thinking pom pom xenia and zoas. Thanks.

People who keep SPS coral and spend thousands on corals, get the kind of skimmer you are considering. Xenia and zoa do not need you to spend a fortune on a skimmer. They can handle some not so perfect water quality...xenia actually likes a little nitrate. You do need a skimmer, but not one that costs an arm and a leg top of the line.
A skimmer pulls out organic matter, that's all it does. You still have to deal with nitrates and phosphates. Water changes and/or reactors for phosphates, carbon and calcium...are also needed to keep the water quality pristine.

It's been running since Saturday and the algae isn't goin yet...
LOL...Oh how I wish getting rid of algae was that easy. Water changes, rinsing your frozen foods before feedings, not overfeeding, lights out early, a good CUC AND getting the phospahates and nitrates under control. It certainly is not something that goes away overnight or in a week.

Sorry was dozing and didn't see this post.....The dedicated feed pump you'd have to look at the specs of the skimmer itself, and see what the manufacturer calls for, and then you would buy a pump accordingly to the flow the skimmer would need.....For example my skimmer calls for a feed rate of 700gph.....So I'm going to go with a pump slightly bigger than 700gph, actually 790gph to feed my skimmer. The pump can always be valved down accordingly.....
Pump choice is entirely up to you......I'm still debating myself on feed pumps, but it's between the WaterBlaster and BlueLine......

No I don't recommend gravity feeding....It's possible to inconsistent flow to the skimmer that way affecting it's operation.....

Im goin with the c skim 1800. Only 350 and it got 4.5/5 stars and was rated better than RO skimmers...looks awesome and easy to setup and maintain.

Honestly skimmer reviews are as reliable as car reviews.....What works for some and not others.....I don't see anything wrong though with the skimmer choice.....

Hey if it pulls gunk out of the system then it's better than nothing. The cost difference of $100 or $200 can often times mean nothing more than your skimmer cleaning X amount of gunk out of your system in 5 hours instead of 4. Typically not a huge deal. Let us know how it works for you.

I couldn't agree more. I have used home made skimmers ( 2 liter soda bottle and 3 limewood air stones) in the past that worked just as well as any purchased skimmer I have had. if it pulls blackish green nasty gunk its a decent skimmer IMO.

Don't get your panties all bunched up now!!!!!
There's a bit more to efficiency than a bottle and some air stones.....Bottom line comes down to efficiency......
