Ok so now the lights are installed. We shall see what happens next. Any advice on light cycle now. Should it be 24/7 until optimum growth or should it be 18 on 6 off???

can you make a reflector of some sort behind those lights? Maybe jsut a piece of shaped aluminum foil or something?

i found today that my flow is starting to get clogged up a lil due to algae, so i will be making a sleeve tommorow after i clean the screen. btw i am starting to get some pretty thick green on there will take pics tommorow. i had some green algae on the back of my glass and it is starting to die and fall off. it's crazy how quick this simple thing can make a difference!

Good stuff!
Anything to block the light from getting to the frist inch or so will do the job, no light on the screen = no algae on the screen

I was going to mention that too, but I figured everyone kinda got the idea.
I didn't see anybody trying to put 3 GPH over thier 10" wide screen
Posiden,
Youve got a scrubber if I recall right?
I suppose your right. This thread seems to be bringing a good deal of interest. So I wanted info to stay correct. That's all.
I used too run one. It was on my 29 Bio Cube.I used a piece of tile for the algae to grow on. Even after not having the super success that others have had. I still find myself wanting to use them. I really like the concept of them. I'm going to try regular macros and see if I can get the same effects through a slightly different technique. Something that has been done by many before me that is.

you were growing on the more roughed up cement side of the tile I assume?

I dunno if ive ever seen velcro, not a bad idea except wouldnt the screen be kinda spendy?
those little strips you buy are like 10 bucks all by themselves. Super rough though :)
Ive seen some people making thiers out of legos on the turf scrubber site.
I like posiedens idea if there were a way to make that tile rough enough. the reason ebing is that if its a cement type tile supposedly cement has alot of phospahte in it so it grows algae really well.
I beleive the old time scrubbers were made of cement and some of the new comercial ones are too. the old ones never fqactored in a need to clean or a way to clean. so failure was immenent they just didn't know it at the time.

You can get velcro in larger sheets I have seen it on the internet. I like the cement tile idea as well.

for some reason my camera will not take a pic and get the actual color of anything. also as soon as you take it out of water it changes color, but in the tank under flow and light it was gettin to be some good gha.

Right on, looks good - this is a cool project - I can't wait to put one on my reef tank, I am going to check my goldfish trough parameters later tonight.

Man I have to say I already have color. I ran the unit a day or so with just flow and some very week light. Now I have the 2 lights at approx 4" from each side of the screen. You can already see the GHA growing. I am really excited. I hope to see some great results.
PS> it tool me a long time to type this as I went and had Christmas beer with a friend. I love this time of the year!

So nice to find water on the floor. My scrubber union valve was hanging over the edge of the sump so the flow changed a little and ran down the pipe, dripped on the edge of the sump, of course it ran onto the floor. Adjusted that and we are scrubbing again. Getting some nice color.
Merry Christmas all.
