I believe the "mama" aka "mothership" is about 8" if I remember correctly........large + huge = LUGE!!!

She actually lives in the refugium downstairs so she and her mate have a 64 square foot sandbed to keep clean. Rye is correct, she's a 2 year old 8" Strombus gigas
. I believe she is about half grown but she has not slowed down yet.

Is it normal for Gigas to get that size? Are thier life spans normally limited due to food limitations?

Gigas normally get to 12 - 14" in the wild and live for 20 - 25 years. In the hobby they tend to starve to death after attaining 5".
a 12" Queen should weigh about as much as a bowling ball.

Guy, I appreciate you and the things you've helped me with and sent me, and of course I'd like to hit you up again now spring is here;) , but honestly I don't know how your wife can sleep at night upstairs from that monster of a refugium/lagoon you've got going in the basement:eek:
