I just got in the metal halide retro fit kit. It is a 250 watt kit by Coralvue with ballast, 10,000k Reeflux bulb, and spider reflector.
I just finished putting the second coat of white paint on the inside of the back part of the hood. I can't wait to get this thing fired up....

I just got in my Jager 200 watt heater and a 24" VHO actinic bulb.
All the good stuff comes tomorrow. I am going to have a busy evening.
I have 50lbs of live rock, RO/DI unit, salt mix, various salifert tests, refractometer, and an auto top off.
I can't wait.....

Here is a pic of the metal halide running and a couple of pics that show the front part of the canopy.
The nails are counter sunk and will be filled in after the glue dries and I am ready to paint. I tried to use clamps, but they just wouldn't hold well enough.
I am beginning to think that I am posting for my own amusement...all these views and no comments?

I think everyone puts something in their tank before they fill it up, whether it is a kid or a cat or some other poor sucker....

also, with a 250, are you running a chiller?
i've been toying with the idea of drilling the back 2 sides and maybe making it a cl. what do you think? cl with a sequence dart on it?!?! that'll gove me somewhere in the neighborhood of 90x turnover.

i guess i missed the part where you said you were using 1/4" for the front panel. how did you bend it w/o cracking it? i know it's somewhat pliable, but is it pliable enough to bend 90 degrees?
also, are you planning on running a ca reactor or kalk reactor?

I used 1/4" luann plywood. It is very flexible.

I won't need a chiller. I keep the house at 70 - 72 degrees all year and I left a large part of the back of the canopy open.
I am going to have approx. 120x turnover once I get my new powerheads. Bare bottom tanks need a lot of flow...

I am moving the light down to 10" above the tank. It is currently about 14" above the tank.
I wanted a taller canopy to help with any possible heating issues and I just mounted the light there temporarily to see how the color of the bulb looked...

I am getting a calcium reactor in about 2 months. I won't need until I get all my sps moved in and add some more stuff....
Oh, and the luann plywood is extremely flexible so it would be hard to crack it...

My wife has our marriage license (looks like a house deed or something) hung up on our wall. She refers to it as her "ownership papers." :hilarious
