I added a small red monti cap frag today along with a rhodactis mushroom
Also tested calcium and alkalinity and got calcium= 475 and alkalinty= 11.8.....is this a good ratio between them? I feel both are a tad high

I usually test for magnesium once a week but it takes SOOO long to do lol so I'll put that off for another time
but my magnesium usually runs about 1350ish
I'm picking my onyx clowns up next week also! I'm just being extra cautious since they are sorta expensive

Here are pictures of the red monti cap frag along with the rhodactis mushroom...I will say that my camera has made it look like the corals lost some color but they look great in person

I just check on it about 25 minutes ago and it honestly look like it was splitting...from my understanding, some mushrooms are like anemones and split when stressed but it looks like 2 are forming

again, the camera loses some color but its a really bright orange monti cap and it has a nice white growth ring along the edges

Updated Next Steps:

Update to LEDs (finally got a date set and I’m doing it Tuesday)

Decide which anemone to buy

Buy anemone

Buy 2 onyx clownfish

Buy Clam

Wait 1 month and add NOTHING (this’ll be hard)

Buy sailfin tank
Buy a few SPS frags and maybe 1 colony
Buy 1 big mother colony of torch/hammer/ or frogspawn
LET THE TANK STAND FOR 6 MONTHS!!! (while continually doing water changes and dosing)
LED Plans:

Install LEDs (Tuesday)
Compare PAR of my old lights to the new LEDs
Start out LEDs at around 20%
Move up 10% every 4-5 days until I can’t go any further without harm to coral
Yeah, I knew that would get some looks...I just really like them and the ones at work are always tiny

I tested my calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, pH, and phosphates tonight and I am proud to say I have 0 phosphate! Now the task is keeping it at 0 so I'm considering using the chemi-pure elite but I'm a bit skeptical since I've heard little feedback about it
On the other note calcium, alk, magnesium were all still a tad bit high so I'll probably not dose for 2 days and let my coral and coralline algae consume the extra substance to naturally bring it down and then dose accordingly

Have you looked into mini carpet anemoies? They are really colorful and really easy to keep, but if your looking for a clown fish hoster, well these will not do it. I like rose BTA's or Seabae nems for hosting.
LED's what unit are you going with? Also, i know that with AI LED's they state to go slow with coral acclimation, here is a link to that statment: http://support.aquaillumination.com/entries/458462-acclimation-of-corals
Frags are fun, this has been the route that I have taken with both of my tanks.... my 90 is taking its sweet time on growth, but my 24 is outta room..... lol I like to see the progression of frags to giants!

Yeah, I'm looking to get an anemone to host 2 onyx clowns...agreed maxi minis are cool but unfortunantly don't host
And I'm doing a DIY LED kit that my friend and I designed with 6 white 3 watt CREE bulbs and 15 royal blue bulbs (I can't remember the brand name but the guy from the online store said these are the best blue LED bulb offered)
and I have a plan for acclimating my corals...I'm going to get a PAR reading of my current set up and match that with my LEDs and start from there and move up 10% every 4-5 days
what type of frags grew the quickest in your 24g?

and thanks for that website...it suggests to let it sit for a month before you turn up the intensity and that makes more sense...but depending on the PAR reading is where I'll start out on (sorry if thats confusing)
