yeah, so joe goes to the dentist on Saturday for this good-sized cavity he had on one of his molars. So they take x-rays, and it turns out he has 13 CAVITIES!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared: yeah, apparently he has really really really week teeth... so he has to have 3 separate appointments, have 4 drilled on the 1st and 2nd, and 5 done on the 3rd. WHAT'S EVEN WORSE is that after the 11th cavity, HE WILL HAVE EXCEEDED HIS YEARLY LIMIT ON OUR INSURANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! omg, we're going to have to spend so much money to get this all fixed!!!

We know what it's like to have to spend a ton of money to get teeth fixed. We had gotten lazy and hadn't gone to the denist for a couple years and me, my mom and my sister all have had and still have to have some work done on ours. The part I hated the most was when they had to do a root canal on my next to the last tooth on the top of my mouth. I still have 3 or 4 cavities I think. At least it dosn't hurt to bad after they give you a few shots of the numbing stuff.

OMG, I so can't read this thread. Yes, you have discovered my greatest fear in life, THE DENTIST!!!! I had this horrible accident as a child and have had a fear of anyone working in my mouth since. So my parents always took me to this old mean german dentist who would literally clamp my mouth open. I finally got so angry, that i punched him, bit down on the clamp and broke it, and ran screaming from the room and I was only 5. THankfully, my dentist is wonderful now and has the most awesome drugs.
So JD, good luck with your hubby and the bill but I am officially out of this thread!! :scared: :scared:

Just be glad you have dental Insurance.
I need to have two impacted wisdom teeth removed but I cannot afford it (about 2k) and no one will do a payment plan.

I too had several HORRIBLE experiences at the dentist... I hadnt been in 10+...I finally had to go this last summer... got a root canal and had 2 crowns put on... I also went to the hygenist and got my teeth cleaned, when I told her that I hadnt been in for that long the look on her face was priceless... when she was finished she said "dang, that wasnt as bad as I thought..." and asked me if I drink pop and eat candy... I told her no...she said thats why my teeth werent that bad... overall the dentist wasnt that bad...hook me up on the NITROUS and I am a "Happy Camper"...

We come into the world with no teeth, and we leave it with no teeth .... natural progression. I bet you feel better already.

sad to say this but everyone has these problems b/c the fear of or not being able to afford going....I build Dental offices for a living.....in OC my small company builds 15+ offices a year in a 40 sq mile area....and there are so many many many more offices being built or existing....if you just got regular cleanings you wouldn't have to deal w/ the big problems....13 cavities wow....luckily I have had 2 my whole life...
I will post a couple of pics of tanks I have recently set up in dental offices of late...I buy the tanks and equiptment on my account at LFS....set up the tank per the specs of my LFS and get paid to do it by the dentist..I in turn get credit for the $$ spent at the LFS which gives me hugely discounted stuff for myself..I also have the dentist set up maintance w/ my LFS...so they get to sell and the maintain but don't have to assemble and I get stuff at cost or better as well as get paid to build it from the Dr........I am currently saving up my credit for a complete 300+ system....

I have 2 kids in braces at $5000 a mouth. They both also needed frenectomies ($700 each) and my daughter just had to have 4 permanent teeth pulled ($1200). I'm in the wrong business! She also has soft teeth with deep pits. First filling at age 2. She's now almost 12 and has 16 fillings in her mouth (white so you can't see them) at $85.00 each. Son only has 2.

Ive got some really expensive teeth apparently. First, i have really deep grooves in my molars, so they fill in the grooves with this white stuff and shine a blue light on it which prevents cavities. Then i had my first and only cavity which i had to have filled. Then, had to have 8 TEETH!!!!!! Yes, thats right, 8 teeth pulled at once to get by braces. Thats 4 permanent teeth and then they cut all 4 of my wisdom teeth out. Boy was that a doozy lol. That was in 7th grade. The anesthesia alone cost over a grand i thnk. Then i had braces, which i just recently got off, which were a couple thousand, dont know how much exactly. Now i have my retainer, which was $500. I think thats all, but to me that seems like a lot of stuff since im only 15. Its a good think my dad has good dental insurance!

when i had 2 of my wisdom teeth pulled, they didn't knock me out... just shot me with a little novocain and it took all of 5 minutes... they just cut the gum and used a little hook, and just yanked it out. On one of them, it was deformed... You know the 'roots' of the tooth? one of them was hooked upwards... the dentist said in his 20 years of practice, he's never seen anything like it... hehehehehe
when i was in florida, i had this horrible dentist... I just remember the one time, but he shot me with novocain. He waited for a while, and then started drilling. Well it HURT, so i started moaning quite loudly, and he YELLED at me, saying "don't yell, you'll scare my other patients!!! just raise your hand if it hurts", so i raised my hand, but he just kept going. Apparently he shot the novocain in the wrong spot... It just bubbled up in a blister...
yesterday, when joe got his done, they had him there for 3 hours... they had to give him 4 shots! hahahahahahahaha!!!

oh yeah... that's why most kids are afraid of professional photographers... they think it's a doctor or dentists office.

I suggest spending up to your yearly limit and then wait until next year to get anything else fixed. If he had 13 cavaties and they were found all at once I would imagine he is like me in that he almost never feels pain from them. I don't feel pain, so I don't go too often sometimes. Then I go and find out I've got all kinds of cavities. Anyway, I would just get any painful, obvious, or bad ones fixed and stay under the yearly max for now and fix the rest next year. Of course, you risk the others getting worse, but I doubt they'll get too bad.

yeah, well with his teeth, they'd get bad quickly. I saw the progression of the one on his molar, it got 5x's more worse in only 3 months... AND, i have a $200 deductible, so that would defeat the purpose...
