Ugh, Work Troubles

There was a catastrophic failure in our mainframe computer. My team has been split into two groups so the shop is going 24/7 and we can have the joy of working 12 hour shifts.
I hate 12 hour shifts.

that same thing happened at my husbands company a few months ago.
TOTAL failure also. Nightmare would be a good word to describe. IBM and a few others were on sight around the clock for days plus most of the IT staff.
Yeah, computers are grand, can't live with 'em can't live without 'em
good luck don't get too stressed

This reminds me of exactly why I dropped out of computer science. Good luck, and I hope it isn't too stressful for you all!

I had days like that back when I was working with systems. I don't miss those days at all. 12 hour days if salary based sucks, but 12 hours days as an hourly contractor wasn't too bad.

Yeah, everyone on my team is salaried. They're going to hate me later today when I announce the weekend schedule.
I bought pizza for the night shift yesterday with my corporate card. I was just informed that I need to reimburse the bank

How cheap can they get I wonder.

I'm salary based myself now as are most professional I.T. positions. That's pretty bad if they wouldn't cover pizza for people working under those conditions. My company used to be pretty good but they are really starting to bend their employees over. With Fay coming through and bringing high winds and rains, most companies were closed yesterday but not mine. They decided to close around 3PM after all the bridges were closed. I'm not sure how a lot of people got home. This isn't a small company either. Our local home office has about 5,000 employees. I told them I was working from home so I didn't have to deal with it.

Yeah, when I was in the Air Force it was pretty standard. After 30 years I've become spoiled
I get tired a lot faster than I used to so I whine a lot more.

When I hear things like mainframe computer I SHAKE and think Token Ring. Wonder how old that system is, I worked at a few places that still today have MAJOR systems on old school technology like that and its SCARY.
