Underwater Cameras

I'm going on a 7 day disney cruise later on in july and I plan on doing a lot of snorkling/scuba diving

I was wondering if anybody had or knew of a good camera to use thats waterproof. Nothing thats souly for underwater, I plan to use it on my school trip to europe next year too, but just waterproof, like something you would find in bestbuy.
I dont know much about cameras but I think that to buy disposables everywhere would be costly and would have bad quality pictures. So if anybody has any advice or experiences with one that would be great

sealife makes great underwater cameras, the digital ones are expensive around $500. I got there film camera...the SL545 Reefmaster SportDiver II it takes great pics if you are shallow but if you go deep around 90 ft you will need a strobe but the camera will only run you about $60. It is film, but any developer can just put the pics on disk for you. here are some pics I took with it.... the last pic was in 100 ft and you can see that the flash just dosent cut it

Oh also you can use all of the sealife cameras on land as well go to there website. I dont remember the name just google sealife cameras

I considered getting an Olympus "tough" series camera which can be dropped, taken underwater, and frozen (should the need arise)....

hm I was looking at one on the bestbuy website. some of the reviews said they had bad quality pictures.

Would it be worth it to get a totally new water resistant camera...or is it better to get a case for a regular one.
My aunt has the new touch screen coolpix camera that I could use if I got a case for it. do you think it would get better quality pictures compared to a water resistant one?

well they do make disposable underwater cameras they take decent pictures but hard to get acurate pictures. otherwise if ya like i can check with my dad he just bought a digital underwater camera from "wally world" for around 70 dollers it was on sale. it was just a camera in the protective case and it has a very high megapixels capability and took great pictures. but ate up batteries pretty fast

I know they make disposible but I thought by the time I buy 3 or for at about 15 bucks a peice just for one trip, you might as well save ip for a better one I can always use.
What's wallys world? Just the name of the camera would be fine if you remember.

I would recomend buying a camera built for being underwater, ifyou want to take underwater pics. the housings they make for topwater cameras arent usually guaranteed for more than 30 ft and if water gets in your done

Ok, so i cant really help you with the camera but I went on a Disney cruise last year for my honeymoon and my wife and I loved it; we went to the Bahamas. Which one are you going on? In my opinion they are the best of the best, have fun!

I have on I picked off the -Bay that I use for my kayak fishing tournaments. It has a waterproof case and has worked great for around $60. Its an SVP brand that I never heard of, but it works great. all picks I have is from that camera.

look up the nikon L20 w/ an ikelite housing. i'm currently looking into this one myself. it's about $320 the camera comes out of the housing and they also make a strobe flash if you get into diving.

Most dive shops also rent high quality underwater cameras. It might make better sense to go the rental route since a proper underwater camera uses a wider lens than a land camera, so you would really need a slr with interchangeable lenses to do the job right ($$$).

I have the Olympus Stylus 1030 SW. It is Shock( can and has been droped from up to 6feet) and water proof. I take it swimming with us and we love it. Have had it for about a year with no problems. Never have taken it in the ocen, but have stuck it in my Saltwater tank to take pic. Good luck with what ever you decide on and enjoy your trip.

Not true. There are housings out there guaranteed for way deeper than 30 feet

Well I looked up the "tough" as mentioned before and that seems to be the one that can go deepest so far, 33'. I wont be going diving all the dime so it dosent need to be a dedicated underwater camera. I haven't been diving before so I wont be going deep anyway. I think I'm just looking for a camera that happens to be waterproof to a certain depth lol.

I went on a cruise once when I was younger to nova scotia
So I expect this to be much better haha. It's the seven day cruise. One day in St. Thomas, one day in Tortula, one day at castaway cay and 3 days at sea

Now my dad changed his mind and saying he dosent want to get a camera anymore
sorry everybody for making everyone go crazy tying to help

He says we can get a case for the existing coolpix that we have though, not too sure of the model name yet. Anybody know of a good brand for underwater cases? The cheaper the better, thanks!
