unusual but awsome fish

Hi-hats can get pretty large like 5-7" and have really funny habits. As adults They like to hide under ledges most of the day in group hudles in kinda a daze but towards the evening they come out and are just great. A really good fish and from my experience with them they do very well in captivity. I have only had a tank at my home for 1 1/2 year and kept a pair that met their demise with a broken heater but i have kept hi-hats on big pine key for quite some time (11 mounths). I find that they take to frozen foods very well and recover from shipping in a matter of days. If you can get your hands on some i recommend them strongly.

Oh and hi-hats in the wild find themselves a cave, ledge, or hole and tend to not stray to far from it. Often you find many of them around large ling spined urchins. They are not related to cardinals but are drumfish but they often have a black cardinal or flame cardinal schooling with them. The drum family is known for its ability to make sounds.

Its funny..while I was at my LFS today (I volunteer there) we got a small order in, and we received some black cardinals, even though we didn't order them! Very unique little fish, IMO. Not pretty, but certainly interesting, and hardy too! 5 minutes after we put them in the tank, we fed the fish, and they ate like hogs!!!

I used to have one in my old community fish only. Very neat little fish. I sure wish I would have taken pictures of that tank..but I was 9...

Striped blenny...not rare, but rarely found in home aquaria. I'm going to have an entire tank set up for these guys along with a few other species local to my area (Chesapeake Bay). It will be a reef, not coral, but rather and oyster reef. All this and my other soon tanks to be are contingent upon funding which I should be able to do in mid July (a month later than I had expected). I'm excited. I'm hoping to have the tank and system up, cycled and running by mid to late August and stocked by September. At that time, I'll have pics of my own for ya.

Here's a cool video of them:

My goal? A breeding population...in a 36" X 36" X 30" quarter cylinder tank w/ 55g oyster fuge/sump
I can't wait :jumping:
