I'm curious....sorry for my first post, but I have to agree with Meowzer....What type of filtration are you running? What type of oversized skimmer? Is it possible to get a FTS(full tank shot)? I have to be honest....280 gallon is a nice size tank, but with 300lbs of LR and putting all those fish in........NAH......Show me the skimmer......

Are you saying take 1 or 2 OFF the list or chose any 2 FROM the list?

I have a Blue spotted Kole tang and a Hippo tang in my 90g. Tangs need allot of algae to nip at off the rocks, a tank 3 months old is too new, JMO but Personally I would think 4 Tangs in a 280g tank would be fine. Tangs are very sensitive to stress, that's why ich affects them so much, 8 is just way too many.

The problem you will run into is food supply..They all want the same thing and will fight for it. Your tank is double my size, so go with 4 tangs and that is allot to keep fed in a new tank. It isn't the rock but the algae supply. Clips with algae sheets on both sides of the tank will help allot.
Also swim space…I put my rock more to the center of the tank and allow my tangs to swim around and through the rocks. Most people build the rock against the back wall and the fish can only swim from right to left like a caged animal.
A 280g tank still only has so much horizontal room to swim. What is your tank..6 foot? That is not allot of swim space. No matter how many the gallons of water the tank holds, it is still only 6 feet. By putting your rock in the center you create 12 feet of swim space…

Not only space, you would have territory problems. A lot of tangs are aggressive to tangs that are of similar size/shape.
