Don't beat yourself up over this. It's hard to say which came first...the darting or the damage, altho I tend to suspect the former since anglers are pretty darned sedentary. You may have lost the fish no matter what.
I've had conversations with a couple of REALLY sharp angler-keepers, and they've both lost fish to SAD.
That being said, once you find a "good" specimen, these fish are super easy to care for and are typically long-lived.
