Sure humanity will be fine but when those resumes go across my desk they just keep right on going into the trash.
You got that right. I worked for a different company for about 8 mos (decided I didn't like the work there), and the engineering director showed me a stack of resumes about 18" tall and said "Here's what I've gone thru, and here is a resume from a person with a MSEE who couldn't even tell me how a basic transistor functions." He meant not what they're used for, but how they actually work, which if you have degree in electrical engineering, you SHOULD know...

We get a lot of really bad ones come through the office in our line of work sometimes. When I look at a resume or an application all I'm looking for is just a little bit of insider information. Something that speaks to me and says hey, this guy knows what he's talking about. I don't care how fancy the resume is or even if it's a little bit sloppy. All I want to know is can you do the job that you're hired for and can you do it well? I've tried out guys who've come in with some pretty fancy resumes and then you get them out there in the field and they just can't seem to do anything right. And on the flip side I've tried guys who've come in and just filled out applications (rather sloppy even) who have impressed me with some really good work.

Texas, actually dumbs things down quite a bit from what I've seen in regards to breaking into most of the skilled trades. And in my experiences down here I am assuming it's because of the fact that it is a tremendous challenge to find anyone worth their salt for those positions. I'm not as concerned with a guys ability to draft me a legal letter as I am about his ability to handle a intermediate plumbing, electrical or hvac issue without creating a situation that could be potentially dangerous or cause further damage that costs us more money. That's hard enough. But finding someone who can do all of that as well as being punctual and for the most part a trust worthy and responsible is tough.

Complaining about spelling errors and grammar while breaking the basic rules of written speech is hypocrisy at its finest.

P.S. I know most of you used and still you the slang term "bad" in the 80s. Your parents all thought less of you for it.

Take me for an instance before I was hit with the big E as I call it I was an OTR trucker and had to comply with a very Hard set of rules to work by called the HOS where if you ran OUT of TIme to work you had to sit and wait to get more time to run. Well that system had worked great for 70 years. Then some Gen X'er like myself goes it is causing problems with drivers not getting enough sleep and other issues. Guess what the NEW ones they wrote 5 times over and still are in court over cause MORE PROBLEMS than the originals.
Back when I drove you had to manage 70 hours in 8 days total time now you have a Clock that mandates when you can Run and Stop and all that BS and once you start moving that clock it does not STOP till it runs out of time that day it does not matter if you need to Pee Poop or whatever you can not STOP to get a break. Drivers are now ending up DVT's from being forced to sit for 11 Hours SOLID in seats before we could stop and get out go to the bathroom and get a bite to eat. Not NOW they can not. Before the best way to manage your Hours was to work about 8.5 hours driving and fuel your truck before you moved it. You never ran out of hours and had about 15 hours to relax everyday. Now in 10 hours or less you have to Shower eat do Laundry and everything else you want to get done. Yet the Idiots think this system is Better.
Best one I ever saw was the man that came into the office when I worked at GE he was like I am a ASE Master Mechanic yet did not know how the Power Divider on a Semi Worked and he was from Navistar.

Just pointing out a few things with that plan that you typed up...
total hours: 8x24 =192
Hours driving: 70
Hours not driving: 122
Hours per day of sleep: 8
Total sleeping hours: 8x8 = 64
Total hours left: 58
R&R hours per day: 7.25 hours/day
Even people that have homes, families, and other obligations have to use their time wisely for laundry, eating, etc. Lets look at a teacher
Total hours 7x24= 168
Total hours at work: (assuming 7:30-5) 47.5
Sleeping hours: 8x7 =56
Additional work hours: 1.5x7 (Lesson plan and compliance) = 10.5+
Total hoursleft: 54
R&R hours: 7.7 hours/day-
You can probably take almost any full time job and average it all out to about 7.5 hours per day of R&R. Unlike truck drivers, teachers also have summers and other holidays off - but a lot of that period is spent planning and going to meetings and seminars and even on furthering their own educations to get better pay. Pay.... hmm, speaking of pay, don't truck drivers get paid more than the average teacher?

Makes little sense. He said back when he used to drive you averaged about a 9 hour day of work for 8 days. And now drivers are doing 11 hours strait with virtually no time to go to the bathroom. Pay hasn't risen, it's dropped. Rates are up but miles are down. Forced to make it happen with less people by working them longer hours. And the cost of living isn't down. Many industries are hurting like this. Even school districts.

AMEN!
I wasn't saying that teachers are any worse off... I'm saying that everyone's in the same boat. I have a lot of respect for people who "drive" our economy.

No kidding! I'd drive for maybe two-three hours and then they'd be a bathroom stop for me---be damned the ticking clock.

Yeah Called Groups that have NO Idea how Logistics work are the ones that are rewriting the rules and then when they do not WORK they SUE in court to try and fix them. Then the Old timers who worked under the older rules go under the old Stuff we hauled more never needed these things called Restarts if we ran out of Hours we had to SIT to rebuild our hours. You need to listen to Drivers instead of Lawyers. The Drivers predicted this in 1999 when the DOT announced that they where going to rewrite the HOS Regs and we all said then let the Games begin.

Never seen or spoke to a teacher that works 830-5 unless they are coaching too and they get a ton of extra money for that. Pretty much all teachers I know of work from around 7am to 2pm or so

In Louisiana, my wife gets to work at 7am and has afterschool meetings 2 days a week. the other three days she does lesson plans after school - and does an afterschool program. Schools in Louisiana start at either 7:30 or 8am and end at 2:45 or 3pm.

I don't have a degree and know. That's scary. I might not be able to explain it in the proper jargon any more but it's been a while. When I went to school I did the bare minimum I had to get a diploma. Yet compared to a couple of my son's friends who graduated with better than 3.5 GPA's I am a friggen genius.
