To be honest, the paper really does mean nothing, other than to show you stuck with it. I'd rather work with a "hands-on" person any day of the week over a "paper engineer".

I like the program they have at my university for teaching. You have to observe for one semester and then teach for one semester - and do everything that a teacher does - from lesson planning, to discipline etc. The hands on training for me is much more important.

A lot of universities now require two years of internship and hands on training to attain a degree. I know Montana State University did for all Engineering Fields.
On a side note, I am twenty-five and a Civil Engineer. I design private run ways, foundations, and some water treatment plants through out the state of Montana. My first job when I was fifteen was a concrete laborer, and worked in mining then with a construction company to go through school. My hardest challenge was my employer getting over that fact that I am a lady.
While I agree, there is an significant surplus of people my age whose only strength is to take horrid photographs of themselves in a mirror and embarrassing you tube videos I would like to hope that there are a few others out there who are holding the bar higher for our future generations.

Yeah but in Montana? Isn't their idea of a water treatment plant drinking water upstream from the horse?

Ha.. Missoula they do have some funny ways up there, not as bad as Butte though.
Actually our water treatment plants throughout the state are just as sophisticated as any other state. Some of the plants that I have worked with, have (but not limited too); UV treatments, Reverse osmosis, and multi-stage biological filtration. (Along with your chemical treatments if applicable)
That old saying, "I live on the hill, you live in the hallar, what ever I ......... you have to sawaller" Dosn't float with the EPA.

I knew an engineer who worked at the Missoula plant that would disagree with you LOL! I don't think any place in Montana takes a back seat to missoula in the realm of weird.

There are a lot of things that don't float with the, EPA. Actually, I don't know if anything floats with the EPA. They over regulate everything but follow through with hardly anything. They come in handy as a spot check on some things. But other wise they just serve as a nuisance. Just the governments tool that they use to control industry and property while sucking the life out of hard working folks like you or me.

I know that at the same time the Missoula waste treatment plant was having to get EPA waivers every year because they were emitting too much pollution into the Clark Fork river the city was at the same time allowed to forcibly annex many of us into the city with the intent of forcing us off our septic systems and into their faulty waste water treatment plant. EPA was cool with that but harassed the pulp mill that provided a lot of really good jobs out of business.

And many are intelligent and thoughtful. A great burden will be put on them as they will need to pull more than their fair share.

Funny thing is that the next generation will grow up saying the same about their following generation. It's the same old song and dance...older, wiser folk ripping on the youngins.
Jeff, the only reason why you can't find any good white boys to be your slave labor is because they're too busy going to school to become teachers, young entrepreneurs of their own or meth heads.

Exactly right. There were some real losers in my school but what was seen as failure back then gets you graduated now.

Could it be that back as few as 20 Years ago if WE Screwed up we where allowed to FAIL a grade or something like that. Now even if you can not Read Write or do Simple Math they shove you forward in the name being PC so your Feelings are not HURT. Sorry kids need to feel that sense of NOT getting the Trophy so they know that LIFE IS NOT FAIR. They need to be Told NO NO NO at times. The Big one is Discipline anymore you so much a Spank your child the State comes in Rips them from you and goes your a bad Parent. Sorry my Parents Whipped my Butt many times for Things I Deserved and I turned out Fine. Kids these day are so over Medicated for ADHD and ADD and out of control and yet when I grew up those same kids had No Problems with NO MEDS why they knew it was either BEHAVE or Mom or Dad would be Called and then their Hides would be Tanned at Home. Hell my Mother would tell the Mother of the kids I was playing with to GO AHEAD and Spank me for HER.

My cousin was on the phone having a bit of a fight with his girl friend when his mom told him for like the 3rd time it was time to come to dinner. He mad the mistake of saying shut up b!(^# with his dad sitting 6 feet away. He said by the time he realized what he had said he was laying flat on his back with his dad leering over him with a finger in his chest.

It's a different culture now. Under pressure is where Ive learned the most about the people I've hired. Quality begins at home and if the kid lacks basic reading and math skills, the public school system wont address this but rather graduate them under the guise of PC because everyone's a winner, that's just how our society is today.
But not the rest of the world which is another reason why we are losing to China and India and will continue to do so.
We have them beat when it comes to baggy pants, tattoos and body piercings though.
