I just bought a used saltwater tank. The owner had it up and running for seven years as a saltwater tank, because of moving he emptied it. I did not ask how long the tank has Ben empty. My Q? Is starting it back up using a new canister filter, is it going to have to go through the cycling processes again or is it good to go.

Agreed. If so yes the tank will have to cycle again

Yes, you are starting over and the tank will need to cycle to build up stable bacteria colonies.

No live rock or live sand came with the tank. The canister filter was not working so had to buy a new one. Thanks for the good info.
